I really like the Remington 40-X rifles. I've got a 40-X Varminter in 308 that's very accurate, although I haven't been able to shoot it as much I'd like in the last few years.

Did you take those photos? They came out pretty good- you can even make out the dust bunnies!

Congratulations! Bet you'll enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine

a classic. hope it came with a front sight and a sling. let us know how it shoots.

Nice picture, 'rock. What kind of accuracy do you get with your 40X?

I have an RPA "Trakker" sight set that came with a Winchester Model 70 target rifle I won at an auction a few years ago.

I've since put a scope on that rifle. I've got a few other precision rear sights that I could use.

Also have a few other Redfield and other sights...

Shooting from prone at 200yds with 1963 match that an individual had in storage for all these decades with the open base bullets of the period, that were not held in high esteem for accuracy. The rifle shoots better than I can in across the course competition.

Not sure about the twist rate. Some have opined that the standard twist rate for this rifle is 1:12...which is a little slow for my taste. However, I have a Winchester 70 .308 target rifle with a Hart barrel on it. When I called Hart, I spoke with Jim Hart, who told me that the barrel was either 1:10 or 1:12, because 99.9% of the .308 barrels they sold were one or the other. He also told me that as a practical matter, for .30 caliber bullets up to 180 grains, it wouldn't make any difference which it was.

Someone noted that the barrel is marked "7.62 Nato" and asked if that would be a problem with ".308" ammunition. My initial reaction was no...but I really don't know.

Are all Remington 40X's marked "7.62 Nato" or are some ".308"?

Unlike .223/5.56, I don't think there is any physical difference in the .308/7.62 Nato chambers. But I used to think I knew a lot more than I think I know now...

For the record, my International style 40-X is marked .308, as are most other .308 40-X's I've seen.

Speaking of Rimfire 40-X's here's the 40-X Sporter I had built by Remington's Custom Shop several years ago. I use it for Silhouette shooting. Wish the photos showed the pretty wood better.

The Model 40 arrived at my FFL today and I went over to give it a good look-see. I'm waiting for a couple of other guns to a arrive, so I didn't start the DROS.

The 40X looks pretty much as it was advertised...in excellent condition, with the Olympic sight attached. I pulled the sight off and took it home.
