Located on I-80 east of Des Moines, Brownells opened their new retail store. Definitely a must see for anyone passing through Iowa. On top of that the Governor officially signed the suppressor law into effect at the new store. (about time)

Entire facility is first class, customers were filling the parking lot by the time I left. Must have had more than a dozen personnel on the floor to help. Didn't find a component I was looking for in the retail area, they pulled it up on one of dozen or more computer monitors and someone from the warehouse delivered it. Impressive!

Was struck by the handgun displays, all are cabled but in the open for people to handle and hold. Inventory included both new and used rifles-shotguns-handguns. Suppressors, scopes, optics, clothing, and more. Plenty of specialty catalogs (AR's-1911's) as well as the big book catalog were available.

I'm impressed. I knew they were opening a shop but had no idea it was going to be that large. I'm about an hour away and will need to visit sometime in the near future. Did they have a large selection of used guns?

Me Like 'Em

Me too ! I like how everything is out in the open, especially the guns. (Posting # 4).
Wish we had a Brownell's in our area. How are their prices, on used handguns in particular ?

Cool! I will be passing through there in two weeks. I just may scope it out.

Wow! That's really nicely laid out! Like having the handguns out like that for easy access and comparison.

The new store is in Grinnell, about 30 seconds drive from Interstate 80 (exit 182). I had planned on making it to opening day but work got in the way. I will be stopping by this upcoming week.

I live close enough that I can get myself and my credit card in trouble with the wife:uhoh:

Gun prices seemed about average. They had what looked to be police or military Beretta 92F trade-in's for under $400. What really caught my eye was a fully engraved Ed Brown 1911.

Overhead flat screens displayed your first name and the order status, similar to fast food. Showed when your order had come from the warehouse and was ready for pickup.

Employee told me future plans are to add to the retail area and someday expand to range facilities.

Good for them, I look forward to stopping on my next pass through there. Hope they just keep that as a flagship and stick with the catalogs. I think Cabelas was much more fun when they just had a store in Sydney and Kearney.

When Brownell's bought Sinclair International(Ft. Wayne, IN) they shut down the retail store they had.

Took them long enough to get it open. Been driving by it for at least three years waiting after their big distribution center opened.

Wow! Im not far from Iowa, just 27 miles on I 80.. Guess where I'm headed tomorrow!

Thanks for the info....

I'd rather have a Cabela's, but that's just me. I hope Brownells' used gun prices are fair, though. Only store I've ever seen with fair prices on used guns is a local place.
