Hi All, I got my new AR556 today .Nice , So I `m looking the gun over & I decided to take the hand guards, just to look inside.oh boy, not even a hint that the barrel band is going to move. Nothing. So I get on reading the instructions again & it instructs me to turn the band clockwise.(I started to feel like I was learning to tell time again)! Ok No way that `s going to turn clockwise. Finally after putting a t shirt on it & a nice big pair of channel locks it moved Clockwise ,now I think I`m doing ok. That`s when it stopped unscrewing . Jammed tight . I could see it had backed off a few threads . I tried again, & CRACK the barrel band breaks. No damage to threads on gun , or barrel band . Come on, I aint that strong. I`m mystified . what happened?

What is the ASR223? The only ASR I am seeing is the Aero Survival Rifle and chambered in pistol calibers. That can't be it because the "handguard" is part of the receiver and the barrel attaches in to it.

If you tell us the manufacturer we might be able to help you. Pictures would also be helpful.

It`s the Ruger model AR 556. I i cracked the barrel band while unscrewing it. It`s the new type barrel band used by Ruger. Mine just wouldn`t come loose . The actual plastic barrel band broke while trying to unscrew it. I must have had way too much squeeze on the plastic bolt. The threads on the gun look fine . However I think the front sight might need to be removed so that I can get the new one around the barrel so it can slid down the barrel & the hand guards be reinstalled. Boy did I mess this one up! Is that the only way to get the circular barrel band reinstalled? I wonder if Ruger will send me a new barrel band, Or Will I have to send it back ? I don`t do this kind of stupid stuff. Well ,I guess I did!

The instruction video on Ruger's YouTube channel made it look easy. Thread the delta ring toward the receiver.

To get the new one on, you can go in the front or in the back. You could avoid removing the front sight by removing the barrel assembly from the reciever.

It's not a barrel band, that's part of the confusion. Ruger's AR556 uses a delta ring that you tighten and loosen in order to remove and install handguards.

Honestly I think you are going to have to call Ruger, at least to get the part from them. A picture of exactly what it looks like would help, but based on what I have read you will need to remove the front sight and handguard cap in order to get the new ring down to the threads, unless you can access the barrel nut and remove the barrel from the upper receiver as jakk suggested.

I understand that quite a few new owners have had this issue. As far as getting the part we`ll see what Ruger does . Ruger_AR-556_065_tn.JPG I think I was able to show a picture of the screw off delta ring If Ruger wants the gun back so be it. OT, I lost my pup of 16 years on Memorial day weekend. Must have really messed with my attention span ,& judgement.

Well I checked.& I must have turned the delta ring the wrong way. That`s all I can think of. THere was no damage to anything on the rifle, or the plastic Delta ring. Well if that`s the case , that`s one of the most stupid actions I`ve pulled off in my 71 years,
