I was just wondering about something and since this section has been kind of slow figured I'd ask away.

Do you guys have a lot of friends that also own NFA items or are you kind of the rarity? I've met a couple guys in my travels that say they are the only one out of their group of shooting friends that owns NFA items, and then there's people like me who have probably 5-10 friends that also own NFA items that we can talk about and bounce ideas off of.

So are you guys the lone wolf NFA guy in your circle of shooting buddies or has the bug caught for your friends as well?

I started an NFA trust with one of my friends so we both could get into it , we live in different states but share equipment sometimes. We still haven't gotten stamps back yet but it's great to bounce ideas off of, and others will be joining in the future. But overall, I don't know anyone else who has nfa items.

That's interesting. I found when I started getting my NFA items approved I had more friends asking questions about the processes and a few started got into it for the first time themselves after I did it. It definitely helps to have someone that's already done the work/research.

My local gun shop we used to hang out at was a diamond in the rough, between owner and regular customers just a foundation of information. When I first walked in years ago I had no idea how to apply for a CCW, if suppressors were legal, AR's, none of that. When you know people with first hand knowledge of something it makes it a lot easier than trying to piece together stuff from the internet (usually).

Living in Arizona...especially well away from the liberal strongholds (a relative term) of Phoenix and Tucson, there are actually a lot of folks that have NFA items. I used to shoot my silenced subgun up on the fort until the new CG decided he didn't like guns(?). I used to be the 'resident expert' at the LGS until they finally got the bug and got around to getting their FFL upgraded so they can now handle the Title II stuff. Life is good here in the great southwest.

My brother (who lives next door) and I are the resident NFA guys. We both have had NFA items for 10 years or so. Between the two of us we probably have 30 stamps (give or take a few).
I have turned a few people on to NFA items but none in my immediate shooting circle. Most of them don't want to go through the extra "expense or hassle" to acquire NFA toys. I've even had people say to me "you're the only guy I know with the special license for that stuff." I always try to set people straight about the process of acquiring NFA items but they usually seem skeptical. You can lead a horse to water...

I've noticed that too. Have we answered all the questions about 41F and now nobody wants to hangout with us anymore? haha

Locally, I have one friend with a silencer for his hunting rifle... I don't think I can count the SOT who sells me stuff as a friend.

But, back home in NM, I've got several buddies who got bit buy the bug. With communication being what it is now, it's pretty easy to bounce ideas back and forth with them.

Interesting responses. I wonder if after the pre-41F push it will become more mainstream after all the approvals and a lot more people are "in the club". (Even if that does take another 12 months to get those approved).

I think everyone is just taking a breather. A lot of us spent a good chunk of cheddar leading up to 41F. Not to mention a lot of companies are sold out of stuff and there was probably such a hard production run that they weren't spending as much time on announcing new products, sales, marketing, etc.
I bet that worse case, after this pre-41F wave of forms gets approved, we'll see a huge boom.

The fingerprint kiosks going to Silencer Shop's preferred dealers will make a big splash I think too.

I got my shooting buddy into nfa so I wasn't alone. Also have another buddy who owns a gun shop and is a nfa dealer.

I have a few buddies who I shoot with. However, they are not nearly as enthusiastic about guns as me. They like guns, shooting, and the 2A, but they don't buy guns like I do and they don't have any NFA items. I've tried to get them into it, but I have not been successful. I guess they figure that they can just play with my toys instead of buying their own.

i tend to think of NFA friends as more machine guns and destructive devices. when i was into that, i used to hang around a bunch of those people and hit knob creek a lot, etc. now ALL my friends have suppressors and SBRs so i don't even think it's unusual enough to mention. like asking "Do you have friends that wear pants?" :)

My cash and time were tied up and selling a house pre-41f. I will be joining you guys soonish, probably within 6 months. I want to wait for the back log to clear.

Be careful sir, it's an addictive hobby!

I know a few people at the local range who shoot suppressed. Have allowed a few people to make silencers on my lathe also.

The problem is that when I go out and play with my NFA friends I always seem to get shot in the wallet.

NFA friends?
No, not really ... but several acquaintances have come to me for NFA advise and firearm information. I've shared a blank copy of my trust with them and guided them through the process and they haven't had any issues.

I'd call these people friends, but we actually only know each other through work or other friends ... We've all run into each other at the range or gun shows but nothing planned, we don't hangout ... I think I'm not particularly social but I'm not anti-social, most of my time is spent with my family or doing tinkering with guns, reloading and other gun related activities.

But on the other hand, I like my dog better than most people.

In the UK suppressors are very popular. At my club every second person has at least one, most of those owners have several cans...

I have a couple of regular shooting buddies with silencers and SBRs, but nobody in the region I know of other than me with a machine guns (or an officially designated range that allows machine guns, unfortunately). Wanna be my friend?:)

Interesting. I had heard in other countries they are more common sense most governments recognize them for the safety device that they are.

Are you guys able to take your guns/cans home or do they have to stay at your club?
I spoke with one guy on THR a few years ago who said it was quite the process just to get his single shot shotgun to keep foxes out of his chicken coop.

Yep, it depends if you have safe storage at home. Those who can't have a safe installed in their house must keep the guns and cans in a safe at the club. If you have a safe installed in your house you can keep the guns and cans at home.

There are also provisions for having these items at home for short periods of time if they are being repaired, sold, maintained etc.
