Pmag vs usgi mags for bulk purchase.

Most of mine are Pmags, but GI are usually cheaper.

Here's an article about Battlefield Las Vegas. It's a private rental range that racks up extreme round counts, and have reported some surprising results. One observation was that USGI mags have been the most durable.

Hard to beat a USGI mag with the current anti-tilt followers. I have about 13 PMAGS though, and they also work great.

Try Brownells GI spec or Okay Industries if that is what you want.

If I recall from the humongous Battlefield Vegas thread on AR15, Pmags simply cracked or the feed lips had problems with extensive use but were covered under warranty with no problems. Metal probably holds up a bit better dropped on concrete after mag dumps repeatedly than polymer.

I like both and use both, but when I can get GI mags significantly cheaper per magazine, I go with GI mags. Very few people who are the first owners of GI Mags, and know the history of their mags, has problems with them. For whatever reason, almost all the bad GI mags out there are hand-me-downs and military surplus, and no one knows how old the are or what they have been through.

I'll tell you... I have PMags. I have Lancer "Warfighter" mags (love them!)... but what I trust most in the world is a good old USGI 20 round magazine (or 30 if your heart desires). And... I think the Brownell's mags with the chromium springs (I think that's what they call them) are just plain superb. I have never had one fail and during the LAST panic, I bought a bunch. I have new/unwrapped ones. That's what I would buy going forward. My two cents.

I usually buy 10 mags at a time. Sometimes it's pmag, sometimes it's D&H aluminum 30 rounders.

Both have been good in my experience.

Surefeed (okay)and Brownell also have good aluminum mags.

Hard to go wrong with any of those.

I have Vietnam era 20 round mags with the original metal followers that I still carry for duty use. They've been pretty close to 100% reliable.

Personally, if I were spending my own money to buy new 30 round mags, I'd go with the PMags or possibly the Lancers.

I tried Pmags, and didnt care for them. The thirtys seem to bounce rounds out, and the 20's jam frequently. I think its OAL with the 20's. USGI mags have been 100%. You can buy USGI 20, or 30 for 12.50 each. Many have never handled a 20 round USGI magazine, or a lightweight AR, but the two come together, and make an excellant combination.

I have many Pmags and even more USGI. I used the Pmags (and Lancers) overseas with zero problems but find I am preferring USGI these days because they stack better in ammo cans and mag pouches. The newer Lancer L5AWMs are great because they have a flat profile like USGI so they stack great but they are the priciest of the bunch. My only gripe with Pmags is the fat baseplates.

I have lots of both but prefer USGI's.

I use primarily twenties for compactness yet a lot of firepower, I have yet to have a P mag fail but have had problems with GI 20 rounders. Since I have over 30 AR's and several P mags for each it is a fair representation.

Brownells aluminum mags that I have are some of the most well built aluminum mags I have seen.

However, Palmetto State Armory sells D&H mags at a very good price and they are good mags also.

Don't forget about 20 round mags. Everyone should have a couple at least. They are shorter and more compact and are much easier to use off the bench.

Concur that the Brownell's are superb mags. Got a bunch of D&H and they're fine as well. The 20-rounders? They're what I take to the range now (also helps me conserve ammo and keep me from doing mag dumps); I've got a few Colt's 20 rounders that are good to go.

Been using the P-Mags a lot, ordered up a bunch of the non-window models on sale, gonna try out the Hex-Mags (Midway had 'em on sale, so I ordered a bunch), don't know much about them. Also, I was given a bunch of the Troy Battle mags a couple years ago or so to T&E, got to keep them, they've been 100% for me, don't know about others' experience with them (and they're cheap, but seem pretty durable).
