Looking for something a little smaller than my Shield for those times that I need to stick something in the pants or jacket pocket. I really like my Shield, but sometimes it is even a tad to much size wise for that quick trip here or there. Would prefer to stay with 9mm, but am open to all options.

Handled a LCR and a BG380 the other day at the LGS. Also handled a LCP, but just didn't get the warm fuzzy feeling with it. Did like the Smith, but have seen MANY comments about light primer strikes with this gun, so that has me a little worried about it. Also, 380 ammo is more expensive compared to the 9.

I know I am probably the minority and you may call me crazy....or something else, but I prefer a safety on my semi auto guns. It is what it is.

Comments on the LC9s, or other small pistols..........

I have and carry a LC9s but it's IWB, I don't fancy "pocket pistols".

Personally I would say it's a bit big to pocket carry. That's where the LCP fits that niche. The LC9s is virtually invisible IWB so it fits that IWB belt carry sub compact niche, much better than the Shield IMO. There may be some that chime in who pocket carry the LC9 though.

It's a great gun but I would never try to pocket carry it.

I like carrying my LC9 but hate shooting it. The ergonomics in my opinion were not designed to handle recoil. I think Ruger just blew up their LCP into a 9mm and the LC9 was born. Tried shooting Shields and Bodygaurds and very much prefer them to my LC9. Also I found the magazine disengaged a couple of times carrying it that I found alarming.

Thought about a Sig P938? It's about an inch shorter than the Shield.

I was waiting for a sale on one when I ran across something else.

Pocket carry my LC9s regularly in all but perhaps one pair o jeans that are too snug.
Yeah, it prints a bit but I usually keep my hand in that pocket to cover it.
I have a new pocket holster on the way that will totally conceal the outline.
For me personally, it's a great shooter for a small nine. Almost everyone who shoots it keeps a nice tight group at 7 yards.

I've had the LC9s for a few years. It wears very comfortably in a Hybrid Mini-tuck IWB holster. I find it a tad big for me as far as pocket carry. In a pair of jeans the back of the slide just barely sits higher than the top of the back pocket on most of my pants, and I find it just large enough to make front pocket carry too uncomfortable. That may be personal to me only as I also found the LCP uncomfortable in the front pocket. The only time I pocket carry it is in my inside coat pocket. Otherwise it's IWB. As far as function it is and accurate little guy with a descent trigger. The accuracy on these are arguably because of the trigger. But they are only as comfortable to shoot as a tiny little 9MM can be. Prolonged range time with beat your hands up a little but not any worse or better than others I've tried.

I've carried a LC9s for about a year. I don't care for pocket carry, or IWB, so I've got an inexpensive Bulldog OWB holster for mine. For as little as it cost, it's been a very good holster.

I'm a revolver guy. It didn't take but one trip to the range with a LC9s to convince me to retire my Colt Cobra and put the Ruger to work.

+1
I've had one for about a year and a half. The ergonomics are very good for me. I pocket carry in the holster that came with a Veridian sight. I also sometimes abdominal carry in a Galco holster, where I really appreciate the safety.

I own the LC9, and a S&W 642. I shoot the LC9 a bit faster, but the 642 disappears in the pocket better.

So, go shoot a 642.

I love my LC9S. The recoil is not bad at all with the 9 round magazine. For such a small gun, it is quite accurate. I practice with it regularly as it should be as a carry gun. It goes in an IWB holster when needed and on my ankle at work.

I found it had too much recoil for its size. Perhaps that just takes getting used to with practice. My only experience with a 9 mm pistol is the Colt 1911 and a Walther P5.

My wife likes her LC9s, on our last trip to the range she put more than 100 round without a hiccup. I did install a Limbsaver grip sleeve, but she prefers shooting the LC9s to her LCR .38 Special.

I pocket carry my LC9 in one of these:

It's very sturdy and takes some breaking in, but it definitely breaks up the print and keeps the gun stable in the pocket. I've pocket carried something or other for 25 years and the LC9 is the largest gun I've pocketed with regularity. It is the older DAO style, but I think that sort of trigger is the only way to go for chambered pocket carry. I have no beef with the safety or LCI either.

Really, it's the LCP that's pocket carry perfection. Even with the 7-round extended mag it's light, unobtrusive, and effortless in the front pants pocket. 8 rounds of .380 FTX is probably going to meet your self-defense needs and that's what I carry in summer when I'm wearing shorts instead of my deep-pocketed khakis or Key jeans.
