Do these have any chances of passing?

Minnesota Republicans introduce two extreme gun bills

Monday, January 16, 2017 by Susan Du in News

The first is “permitless carry,” granting anyone in Minnesota the right to carry a gun wherever they go. The gun lobby prefers to call it “constitutional carry,” and it would invalidate all state laws on carrying or possession of weapons in public.

stand your ground,” which has two prongs. In your own home, you can shoot to kill in order to prevent a felony -- such the stealing of a TV or the writing of a bad check. Anywhere else, you can shoot to kill if you feel like you’re being personally threatened. You don’t have to try to run away first. And you won’t have to prove that you had a solid reason to be afraid in the first place.

Extreme? Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. But hey, I value freedom at its highest level. There's nothing crazy, nor extreme about guaranteeing the rights of man.

The article by Susan Du sounds loaded with anti-gun semantics. Is there another take on the bills by a less obviously anti-firearms reviewer you could have posted?

We've got to watch out for those subtle semantic loadings by a lot of writers and <ahem> "journalists" nowadays.

It has become obvious that the news media uses the 1st Amendment Freedom of the Press to attack the 2nd Amendment. The Founding Fathers saw the 1st and 2nd Amendment as a protection of civil rights.
What they did not envision was the redistribution of wealth and a Socialist government in Washington D.C.:uhoh:

She lost me with the nonsense about shooting someone for writing a bad check.

lol. It is a felony!!!

What if someone you meet voted illegally, can you shoot them too? That's a felony I believe.

Whoever wrote that article is being so dramatic. Please show us one example of somebody getting away with a shooting to prevent a bad check from being written. Stupid liberals. Anyway, no, they will not pass.

I hope we shall take warning from the example and crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations who dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength, and to bid defiance to the laws of their country.

Even if these bills don't pass (it's Minnesota, after all), their introduction moves the "Overton Window" on what is acceptable discourse. That is, the next time they are introduced, they won't be considered "extreme" any more.

I recently got a Minnesota nonresident carry permit. They do have some strange laws. Basically you must be backed into a corner without a remote chance of retreating to legally use a gun in self defense.
Does anyone else think it's a backwards approach passing laws to make something legal instead of repealing the laws that made it illegal?

I hope they pass as I live here. Also, the city pages has to be one of the most left leaning "papers" in the twin cities. This has a better chance of passing now that both houses are majority Republican for the first time in quite a while.

You must not have grown up in MN, hi-tower, or you'd know they'll never pass. And of course Commie, er, City Pages again shows it's ignorance.

Rochester/Twin City's/Duluth-Iron Range is what keeps us from going Red but yep we are a Flight or Fight type state for now, things have change some since I started carrying 18 years ago and I also live in a heavily Red part of the state so I don't run into many areas I can't carry,my next renewal I don't think I'll need to get the Utah carry like I've done before but time will tell.

  • What they are trying to pass is only for concealed carry and only in state,if you want to open, concealed and go out of state you still need to get a permit to carry,at least that's what the Fargo/Moorhead news had on the other night about it.No Reciprocity with it.

That is a mistatement of the SYG law and they either know it is not true or don't care. This gets tiresome.

We had a reporter in Tennessee who claimed that to get a Tennessee handgun carry permit all you had to do was watch a 45 minute videotape of the state attorney general explaining self-defense law. That was total manure mulch too. If it's practically any reportage on guns it should be bagged and sold at Farmer's Supply in the fertilizer department.

If they are committing a felony, in your presence, in your home...and you can convince twelve of your peers that you knew it was a felony being committed at the time you shot them.

Hard to do with a bad check, or voter fraud. Attempted rape, pretty easy.

Straw man argument

I did not. grew up in WI. I am hopeful as they passed some new gun laws last year that I thought would never pass, such as the suppressor one.

The left depends on their friends in the movie and "entertainment" industry to destroy common sense and distort reality. The fact is that no one in their right mind is going to shoot anyone for anything trivial.

Whats extreme is Minnesota's massively growing Somali immigration. They are not Americanizing or normalizing, there is just massive liberal Somali population centers popping up seemingly from nowhere that happen to be anti gun.
