I had a notion today was going to be a good one. When I stepped off the elliptical exerciser the machine told me I'd burned 308 calories, that's my favorite caliber

Then I get an email saying a LGS is having a President's day sale. Being self-employed, I felt a temporary layoff coming, it happened ;)

So, a Sig 226 SAO with Romeo 1 sight came home with me. I did trade a Gen 3 Glock 17 I hardly use. I've had an itch for one of these red dot pistols for a while now, scratched it today.

Figured I'd share a picture with the good folks here are THR.

Well, if I knew I could trade it for one of those, I would have a good reason to run out and buy a Glock 17.

Well you've done it again! Nice looking gun; definitely a bit of an upgrade from what you traded in. Let us know how it does at the range.

I've a SIG P220 SAO and love it but don't shoot it much anymore as these old eyes struggle with iron sights, making it more work than fun to shoot. A P226 SAO with built-in optic would be about irresistible!

I've been interested in the "new" SIG P320 with built-in optic, but I'd rather have the P226 SAO!

Wally, I'll be shooting it tomorrow, a range report to follow. I tried a regular 320 when they first became available, it just wasn't my cup of tea.

That looks like a sweet setup, and I don't even care for reflex sites on a pistol.

Congrats man.

Well, I had no idea at my age I can still be a dummy, lol. Apparently the no parallax feature of the red dot is something I overlooked while not reading the owner manual :)

Once we got that out of the way, yes, if the dot is on the target and I do my part, the bullet hits right where the dot is aimed.

The SAO P226 is a gun that, for me, remains to be mastered. Every time I pulled the trigger as if it was a finely tuned 1911 trigger, success. If I fell back into my stupid heavy double action pulls, not so good. And the gun is lively, it's not heavy enough to sit there and soak up the recoil.

The Romeo 1 red dot sight is the first one I've used where the dot is a dot and not a starburst. As soon as these become generally available I have a few other weapon systems I'll add one to.

All things considered, zero regrets, very happy.

This makes me wonder about your grip. I run an old W. German P226 which is going to be a bit lighter than that setup and it runs like a top.

If you have a good stance (feet shoulder width apart, knees slightly flexed, torso leaning forward slightly) and a high, thumbs forward grip like the video above, recoil in a 9mm P226 shouldn't be an issue.

Um, yup ... I was kinda wondering about this as well -- the SIG P-226 (in any version) absorbs recoil as well as any semi-auto pistol made ... "Lively" has never been a word I'd ascribe to the ability of any P-226 incarnation to mitigate felt recoil -- polymer-framed 9MM's are much more "lively" than any SIG P-series.

It's not about recoil, just muzzle rise. Sorry if "lively" was ambiguous.
