I just picked up an H&R knife revolver to go with my Iver Johnson with the Borne knuckle duster. Anyone else out there in highroad land have anything similar?
I'd like to get an Apache or Deleaxhe if I could afford one.

Why are knives blades never attached to any major handguns? I have never seen S&W, Colt or Walther handguns with a bayonet? o_O

image.jpg An interesting weapon is the Elgin Cutlass Pistol, developed in1838 for the US Navy. The resulting .54 caliber, single-shot smoothbore Elgin pistol was equipped with an 11.5-inch Bowie Knife blade and was intended for use by boarding parties; it was the first percussion firearm adopted for naval service, but only 150 were made. The Navy specifically intended them for the Wilks-south Seas expedition. In 1840 a naval landing party used the pistol to defend the landing party when Fijian warriors attacked the sailors on the island of Malolo. A few Elgin pistols were still in use during the War of Northern Agression, but proved so unpopular, they were replaced with the M1860 Naval Cutlass.

Reproductions are available as kits from several suppliers. A good internet search should turn some up. The universe photo was from John Salter a Canadian company selling one in .44 caliber.

Does Smith & Wesson count?

I barely believe it as well...knife on the end of a pistol? Not since The Great War, and those were British Webleys. What is the world coming to?

Those are not needed on handguns with large capacity magazines. The classic service sized Colt like 1911 does not need bayonet because it can be used in same manner as a hammer.

You will not see a SERIOUS* bayonet on a SERIOUS pistol cause the bayonet would be as large or larger than the handgun. And that negatively effects the utility of the handgun. For considering the weight of such a knife .vs. it's weight, one can carry an additional magazine for the handgun.

Yes a pocket knife size blade, but not a big one!

*K-BAR or larger.

Really like the Iver Johnson with the Bourne knuckle duster! What a great combo!

Pablo, This idea of attaching knives to handguns began with the single shot BP naval pistols. Boarding parties fired one round and then used a cutlass. The adding of small knives to cheap hand guns was a marketing ploy.

Probably because the bullets do a better job without the shooter getting splattered with various sticky stuff....:D

Back in the early days, handgun ignition and/or Bullet effectiveness was sketchy at best, so hedging your bet with a blade or knuckle duster made sense. The old stuff is kinda neat and make imaginative collectibles.

The little top break revolvers made at the end of the 19th century that were chambered in anemic cartridges such as 22 Short RF or 32 Short (though with more reliable ignition), were still lacking in penetration. Somewhat iffy whether they would penetrate a heavy wool overcoat of the period. British officers even purchased special bayonets for their Webley MK VI revolvers back in WW1 so they could penetrate German overcoats in the trenches (at least that was the marketing ploy). We've advanced somewhat past that point...I think.

While searching the Internet for more images of modern pistols with attached blades, I even found one where some creative soul had fitted an axe bit on the front rail of a Glock....so, is this a Glock-a-hawk or Toma-Glock ? o_O

Pen gun, mightier than the sword. Sword gun, mightier than the pen gun;
