I have been loading my 45 acp loads using 5 gn w 231 230 gn plated round nose coal of 1.260 in my glock gen 21. That load is very accurate and cycles great in my glock. My friend has a Springfield XD mod 2 and that round will not cycle in his gun (full battery) the round passes the gauge plunk test. Then when we use his barrel the round rides high. I thought if it passes the gauge it would cycle it is way under max. So I dropped the coal to 1.245 it cycles great. Why is that?

Not all chamber gauges and chambers are cut to the same dimensions. Nose shapes differ from one bullet to the next. Combine those elements, and you can see where rounds that fit in one gun might not fit in another.

The rounds have to pass the plunk test and then after that the feed test. The failures to feed could be the geometry of the different guns or the mags. Or both. When reloading SWC bullets COL can be even trickier . A little goes a long way on SWC COL. Sounds like you have solved the problem.

XD's like CZ's have short throats and will require a shorter OAL then many other pistols. That is why it is suggested that the plunk and spin test be done for different pistols and when using different bullets.

Not all barrels are the same.

XD's like a .451" diameter bullet or a shorter OAL. The bullets ogive right in front of the case mouth should be .451" or smaller.

Seems to be common when loading a .452" diameter cast lead bullet, mostly one of the Lee 230 gr cast round nose bullets. Lee's bullet just gets a shorter OAL , as the fix.

The bullets I'm using are RMR 230 plated round nose. The funny thing is my other friend has a Springfield XDM and those loads seem to cycle great in his firearm. I think I'm just going to go with a shorter coal 1.245 for all my loads then that way everything will fit all firearms

YMMV, but I found that I needed slightly more taper crimp in my XD-S .40 than my Sig SP2022. Plunked fine in the Sig, had to be pushed on the SA. I know different calibers, but may be worth checking. Good luck.

RMR 230's have a stubbier ogive so a shorter COAL is definitely necessary. If I remember correctly 1.245 is what I settled on for feeding my 1911s. Worked well in both.
