As AR's go, how is this series for overall accuracy and reliability?

It has a very good reputation. Anything in particular you would like to know? Plenty of folks here have them.

M&P’s, as a whole, are really good guns. About the only thing they, and every other factory AR need, is a good drop in trigger. Reliable? Very. Accuracy? 1.5-2.5” groups are the norm with decent ammo.

I bought them for my sons. I helped them set them up and get them sighted in and was very satisfied. Both of my sons have also been very satisfied with them since.

Probably the Sport II is considered by many as one of the best entry level AR's, the next step up in S&W, their M&P AR is aimed at those more concerned about things like chrome bores etc. that the military has, and then the MOE series has Magpul stocks and are supposedly more accurate since they have 5R rifling (if you can locate a used Sport I--it also has that rifling).

I like mine, but after about 1,200 rounds the trigger would not reset, I dropped in a CMC one piece unit in and it is working good for now but I have only run about 150 rounds so far. I did change out the stock, and hand grip to fit someone of normal dimensions.

Ive gotten near 1 inch groups @ 100m with fiocchi 50 grain varmint with a free float rail. Smoother than my friends Ruger 556 and my other friends DPMS Oracle. Trigger is better than both as well. If i recall correctly, ive had 1 malfunction in around 700 rounds. They can be had for $499.
