Never know what you’re going to find

I started today when I got home from work. Found a box on the floor by my reloading bench full of ammo. Had about 200 rounds of old duty ammo, 9mm Gold Dot. There was also some 40, 45, 380, 38 spl, 32 S&W, 5.56, 7.62x39, all in ziplock bags. I was sorting it when my son came home and had to stop to help him with something.
I guess I’ll try to get back at it tomorrow.

Gunny,
Ironically, I came across a Mannlicher Schoenauer bare Greek marked 03/14 carbine receiver at an online gun auction site today cheap while looking and buying for something else (swedish husky m38 receiver). Not sure the seller knows what they have. No magazine parts and no bolt or trigger guard but otherwise appears complete with trigger, bolt release, etc. Not sure if you are interested as you already have the bolt but I can send you the link if you are.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I will just end up selling the Mannlicher Schoenauer bolt. I had a complete action a few years ago that I sold to a friend. I've got to many projects going on right now, and this mess. :)

I understand, I just bought a Husquavarna m38 bare receiver cheap today because I have most of the rest of the parts to assemble it including stock and a barrel in great shape for it. The m 38 stock had a split toe and if I recall properly, some dude named the candyman had an excellent pictured tutorial on that procedure if I recall correctly. The stock also smelled of cat pee--that was pretty hard to get rid of.

I know that guy, Candyman. He's a stand up guy and does very good work. It's to bad that he's simi retired. To get rid of the cat pee odor, use hydrogen peroxide.

O M G!!! If there had been notebooks & textbooks that place would have looked like Uncle Lee's storage shed after he died! 16 years later we still haven't been able to get it cleaned up. In our defense every time I start I find a really good book and Hubby always finds some sort of man-toy to play with. We never find ammunition though. Well, we did find one of his redneck engineering projects that involved 11mm plastic beads. Imagine a toy rifle that you load the beads in the butt. You drop the lever and one of the beads is pushed into the "breech" then when you pull back the muzzle loader type hammer a "roll cap" for old timey cap guns is moved into place. When the hammer falls the gas from the explosion of the cap pushes the bead out the barrel at a surprising velocity. Two days later I had to take it away from hubby and hide the darn thing. I live in fear that some day Hubby is going to find the notebook with the print drawings for the device. Men should not be allowed free access to things like milling machines, lathes and other machines of mass construction.

Thanks. Never would have thought of that.

Now I want one. That sounds like fun.

Now that you mention it, Gunnny's place does kind of remind me of the Army-Navy Surplus store of long ago. Don't think we ever came across much in the way of Navy gear but there always was a ton of Army stuff to look through.

Army Navy stores were the best! Ours in Rockford (35 years ago) had an M59 APC parked out front named "The Ruptured Duck". I still find inert rounds, training/ ID manuals, and bits of web gear in drawers and boxes from time to time that I aquired there as a kid.

Just wait till I get to my work benches. Wasn't able to get much done during the week due to putting in 62 hours at work. I bet I'll find something in the morning.:D

Gunny,
You have inspired me. I was feeling guilty about having too much stuff, but after seeing your collection I'm looking for more stuff. Maybe I should just look for the fob to my wife's car that I laid down somewhere last week. Those darned things are expensive.

Gunny,
Let me know if you find a Lebel buttstock in somewhere in there. Might be interested in buying it even in poor condition. I would be doing my part to help you clean it out and ease my conscience.

I did locat a tub of old uniforms. The thing about them is that they were issued to me or I bought them at the PX, years ago.

There’s one set that I traded for back in 1983 while training in the Philippines. I traded a set of Woodlands for this set of Philippine Marine cammies.

Also pulled out a box of odds and ends.

I put a lot of miles on these old Cadillacs. They traveled the world on my feet years ago.

I’m not sure of the county this belt came from, picked it up a few years ago with an Astra 600 holster on it.

Also found some odd straps. The hardware is aluminum. Anyone ever use these kind?

Dang. "Universal" LC-1 Straps.
The kids in my old Beachmaster outfit used to covet those, as we always seemed to have oddball stuff that needed moving just a couple hundred meters, so not far enough to pull a truck moving Log or Trains stuff.
They were rather a sticky-fingered lot as was (honest, I never once was all those pirate flag patches, really; and there is no truth to the rumor that the Art 15 forms all used "Errol Flynn" for "John Doe" none!)

Do you want one of the straps?

Didn’t get much done today. Had a little storm come through this morning and knocked out the power for most of the day.
I did a little digging under one of my benches and found a few mags and gun parts.

Also found these.
