I'm looking at an auction of a blued revolver that someone spray painted silver.

What can I use to remove the paint without removing the blueing? Some of the paint is flaking off and the blueing looks pretty good.

Quite by accident I found the bore cleaner I've always used, Shooters Choice, does the trick & has worked on any type paint I've encountered, so far, and doesn't take much to do the job.

I have worked in old home restorations in which metal door and cabinet hinges, locks and other metal bright work was covered with layers of paint. We used lacquer thinner and got excellent results with no damage to the finish of the metal.parts. Whatever I used as a stripper first of all I would try a non visible area of the gun to test.
