My FiL is my main shooting buddy. He and I are both big guys (6'8" and 6'6"). Our hands are almost exactly the same size and shape. Not surprisingly, if one of us shoots a particular handgun well or poorly, so does the other.
I'd never liked the feel of full-sized Glocks, but he bought a Model 22 and I enjoyed shooting it. I also noticed that he shoots it more accurately than his other three or four 40 caliber pistols. I started thinking of getting a Glock of my own.
A while ago I noticed that police trade-in Model 22's were showing up on Gunbroker. I found one for $285 that came with the box and two magazines. It didn't seem to have much wear on it, so I bought it. I picked it up from my FFL yesterday. It has a bit of holster wear, but doesn't seem to have been shot much. I won't get to try it out until next weekend, but that will be kind of anti-climactic, since I've shot the other one plenty of times.
I love police trade-ins and military surplus. $500 seems to be a pretty good price for a brand-new G22. My PTI will shoot just the same and last just as long (longer than I will, doubtless). I don't buy brand-new guns anymore.
