Lots of AR threads lately.

Lots of hysteria due to the school shootings. It will die down soon, people are forgetful and as soon as another tragedy occurs all focus will be lost. If something was going to be done it would have happened 20 years ago after Columbine, it would have happend through the Clinton and Obama administration, but they know it is committing political suicide. They had sixteen years to do something and it did not happen.

My neighbor asked me if I really needed an AR15 I said no, but I own two. His wife asked him if he was going to buy he said no, he has two. I firmly believe all this hysteria stimulates the economy as sales of firearms will increase especially the AR15 and prices will skyrocket and the new and inexperienced will buy them at those prices.

After 8 years of BHO in office and the pending election of Hillary Clinton, the market is saturated. There may be some panic buying but not like the last 8 years. The big issue is keeping them out of the wrong hands. The shooter in Florida was waving red flags almost daily and no one took him seriously. That MUST stop. I don't have an issue of raising the age to buy one until 21 but I think there are better ways to handle this. The AR is truly America's rifle. It's our design and it has now been around for more than 50 years. If you want to know why mental health issues are an issue and needs some resolution start with this Supreme Court case. Once we get a handle on the mental health issue (if we do) the gun issue will go away.

If an 18 year old isn't mature enough to buy an AR, an 18 year old isn't mature enough to vote.

Agreed, imagine expecting an 18 year old to carry an M16 to defend your rights, then not trusting him to exercise his own 2nd amendment rights because he's "too immature." How hypocritical and insulting to all of those 18 year olds who have died with a gun in their hands.

Well said Old man. Vey well said indeed!

I am going to email that comment to my Senator and Representative in D.C. and to President Trump.

Since that age group usually votes Democratic I rather doubt the Democrats are going to be willing to lose million s of voters that are in the age range.

Or be in the military with full-auto rifles and explosive ordnance?
No question about it. If an 18 year old is too immature to buy an AR, an 18 is too immature to take up arms to defend our great nation.

When my son was 17, he was loading high explosives onto Air Force warplanes.

I arrived at Fort Sill at the age of 17. I was 18 when I left. You can't make me believe I wasn't mature enough to buy any firearm I wanted at that point.

All you guys with the '18 years old' fixation do realize the difference between an 18 year old that has gone through Basic training, and 18 year old Joe Blow hanging out in his mom's basement playing Call Of Duty and Grand Theft Auto V, right?

I also realize there is a difference between an 18 year old playing GTA in their mom's basement and an 18 who was raised to be a responsible adult. My sons were made better men by their military service, but they were men before they went to basic.

One cannot put a qualifier on a right, simply because there are differences in their life experiences and choices. If the Age of Adulthood is to remain at 18, then all rights and privileges afforded an Adult in good standing should be granted.

Heck I was 17 when I signed up for the army in the delayed entry program. Had just turned 18 when I graduated from school and boot camp. I am more immature now at 60 than at 18, I just plainly don’t give a crap anymore about what people think of me. If they do not have the right to buy firearms as 18 y/o teenagers than those fat asses in the White House better stop asking them to defend and die for their country while they remain in the comfort of their homes surrounded by a security force to rival a small army.

Raising the age limit won't accomplish anything.

Most of the mass shootings I read about are carried out by older adults.

When I was 20 I was a section leader (USN) and had responsible charge of 3-4 people in my duty section. Not at all uncommon in the military.

It all depends on how a person is raised, their personal ethics, morality and maturity. You can't put an age on that.

LGS said sales were up, but they still had a bunch in stock. The guy told me they would probably even back out in a few months.

Small panic + tax refund season + historic low prices = anyone on the fence or planning a purchase getting spurred to make that purchase. Not panic buying, but people making planned purchases earlier.

The data really interests me. I’m really curious when they will flatline and pace where bolt guns do now. There’s still millions of 50+ year olds that haven’t “adopted the technology” and of course kids being born that need guns. I’m really curious if one day inheriting grandpas AR15 will be a thing like Inheriting grandpas A5 and pre64 model 70 is today. Will black guns just be tools forever or become a prized heirloom? I sure love shooting mine. But I don’t know if my grandkids one day will get the same feeling pulling the trigger as I do when I shoot one of my grandpas.

...Or serve in the military. It seems ridiculous to me we expect an 18 yr old to be mature enough to operate under severe rules of engagement and possibly be maimed or die in service to his/her country, yet keep debating if they are mature enough to vote, drink alcohol, or buy a firearm. They can be trained to shoot an M4, M240 or M249, and Ma-Duece and to operate on foreign soil with deadly force day after day, but can't buy a rifle when on leave? Sounds dumb.

Instead of raising the age limit piece meal, we should raise expectations for behavior of young men and women 18+. Or, make 21 the threshhold for everything: driving, drinking, voting, serving, buying guns. We either expect them to be mature enough to be on their own or they are not.

We are seeing 21st century babies hit voting age...the same ones yelling and screaming for things they don't understand. Your comment may be accurate. I do take comfort in the fact that they (generally) are very politically minded, I just hope that the masses are open-minded enough to grasp reality at some point.

My 16 year old nephew has joined with some others to start a group in school to debate the anti's. He has been coming to the farm since he was a little squirt and his mom let me teach him how to hunt, fish and handle firearms. He loves shooting the rifles and shotguns, and is a natural, shoots better than me. I built an AR15A4 clone with the carry handle installed so he could get some idea of his grandfather's M16 in Vietnam. He loves shooting this rifle when he comes out. Start them young, and they won't forget, train them right, and they will make you proud.

You actually prove the "guys with the '10 years old' fixation" correct. It has nothing to do with age, it has to do with the culture. There are plenty of 35 year old losers playing video games who aren't mature enough to handle what the world brings them. 50 years ago 16 year olds took shotguns and rifle to school and we didn't have this problem. We have a culture crisis where liberalism has ruined 2 generations of young people.

18 year olds in the military are told what to do. Few are making decisions on their own largely because they aren't mature enough to do so.
