from The Truth About Guns:

#1 Colt single action army model 1873 – valued between $1,500 – $30,000

#2: Walther P38 (Pronounced val-tha’, not “walther”) – valued between $800 – $3000

#3: M1 Garand - valued between $1000 – $6000, something to do with Obama.

#4: FM Browning Hi-Power – valued between $800 – $3000

#5: Colt Detective Special, .38 Caliber – valued between $650 – $1,800

#6: S&W Model 29 .44 Magnum – valued between $800 – $3,000

#7 Pre WW2 to WW2 Colt/Remington 1911 – valued between $600 – $3,000

#8 Russian SKS – valued between $600 – $1,200, value rising every year.

#9 Russian Dragunov – valued between $1,500 – $10,000

#10 Sig Sauer P210 – valued between $2,700 – $15,000

A Singer 1911 is probably going to sell for more than 3k, even in "fair", maybe even poor condition.

I will agree that selling any of #1 - #7 should be automatic loss of your Man Card, unless it is to buy a better example of same or one of the others listed. Rather than an SKS I would have listed a Winchester 1894 .30WCF. And rather than a Druganov I would have listed a pre-'64 Winchester M70.

I only have 4 out of the 10.... So I'm hoping not everybody holds fast to this list, so that I can still hope to get the rest.

As I tell many when I'm out paintballing with some of my gear. Everything has a price, just sometimes it involves you paying off the rest of my mortgage.

Iron said I hope not everyone holds fast to this list as I'd like to add a few to my safe.

This is just another one of those arbitrary lists that is detached from every person reading it. Realistically there is no "never sell" gun, or any item for that matter. There's always a point where it makes sense. Somebody offers you stupid money when your struggling to pay bills, sell. A member of your household develops a mental condition and they become dangerous to let near a firearm, you choose what leaves. Now I tend to agree with the thought of the list as there are some items that would be very tough to part with for sentimental reasons, but there is a point where it makes sense. Ever wonder where those values come from, that's what most people who own such items are willing to sell them for, and what other collectors are willing to pay for them. So, I put it this way....
Last guns I would sell if I were forced to start selling.
Family heirlooms
Lifetime milestone commemorative (graduation gift, first gun, wedding gift, gun you bought fo celebrate birth of your first child...etc)
Hunting tools.

The rest are simply objects with no emotional importance.

When the Great Recession of '08 hit, and I lost my job - twice- everything had to get sold to feed the kids.

The last to go was my first handgun, a Rockford Park Police S&W 4" M681 .357. I spent years trying to replace it (along with the rest of my collection), and I finally scored a beautiful 6" 686 no dash which I like even better.

I have left instructions that I am to be buried with it. They can dig it up in the event of Rapture or Zombie Apocalypse- which ever happens first!

I sold an unremarkable SKS for $400 five years ago. Oh well, I'm happy with the gun I bought with that money (CZ vz. 58 rifle when PSA was selling them)

Well, I've got 7 of the 10 NO interest in the other 3 - or I would probably also own them!
Sarge

There are several firearms that list I don't have and am not interested in owning.

What an pathetic list......seven handguns and three old military rifles. Someone with a very limited exposure to firearms put that together.

My list would not enumerate specific brands or models but would consider the utility of firearms that are keepers:

1. A good defensive handgun and back up.
2. A reliable, accurate, and lightweight deer rifle.
3. A .22 in handgun and/or long rifle format.
4. A multipurpose shotgun.
5. A range toy. (take your pick)
6. And the one gun to go with you in a real emergency.

I have #1, 2, 5, and 6.

Guess I have some shopping to do.

The Truth About Guns has as many stupid click-bait articles as it does useful information. This one falls under pretty useless.

My "never sell" guns are very different:

The Anaconda inherited from my Grandpa that he bought right before he died
The Stevens 311 double barrel that was Grandpa's hunting shotgun
The .410 H&R Topper inherited from my uncle that he used as a kid
The High Standard Double 9 revolver inherited from my other uncle that he camped with for 40 years
The Model 66-1 my FIL gave me right after I married his daughter
The 870 Express my parents bought me as my first gun instead of a class ring
The Red Label I bought myself when I graduated college and got my first "real" job

Pretty much everything else in my collection, including a couple that are on TTAG's list, has a price I'd be willing to part with them for.

from The Truth About Guns:
#4: FM Browning Hi-Power – valued between $800 – $3000
Oh good grief.
While an FN Hi Power may be worth up to $3000................an FM most definitely never will. And anyone who pays more than $400 for an FM was taken by the seller. FN Fabrique Nationale of Belgium is the genuine, FM is Fabrica Militar of Argentina.... a copy. At one time FM made a licensed copy of the Hi Power, but that license was later revoked by FN.

Another example of the fine journalists at TTAG. Their motto should be "We write garbage so others don't have to!"
