I have three AR pistols, two with Shockwave brace, one with a simple pistol tube. They are too short to reach the long gun notches, and too large to store with the handguns. I suppose I could make a shelf/box/something to raise them up so they could reach the long gun notches. What intelligent solution have you figured out...? Thanks. Pics help too.

My safe allows for just that and it's what I did for my shorter rifles. When you can't lower the river raise the bridge. You can also, as mentioned, use wood dowels in the barrels but I prefer raising the floor which leaves a nice little space for storing other stuff.

I have 2 AR pistols. I'm storing them barrel pointing down in my safe. They are nestled in there with my other AR and 6+ AKM's. If you are concerned about finish - get a couple gun socks to protect the finish of the guns they are resting on.

Here's my old gun locker before purchasing my Liberty:

I just stand mine up in the corner, next to it's 16" big brother. My AMD-65 is too short for the rack, too. Dowels work, too.

FWIW, I stopped storing my ARs as complete firearms.

With them broken down into the 2 assemblies I found that my gunsafe storage options improved.

EDIT: My 8 ARs (among other things) in the top of my north basement gunsafe ... :)

OOPS, only 7 AR Upper Assys in that pic ... one was on the bench.

With reference to my post #2 here is what things look like. The safe has 3 long gun compartments. The left most has shelf rails allowing me to move the floor up. This works well for all my shorter rifles like my short AR rifles, M1 Carbine, a dew lever guns and anything short. The rails which support the shelf can be had in any home improvement store.

Sorry about the image rotation but you get the idea. :)

I used these a while back, until I moved to a new safe and it didn't matter or didn't work. I still have them just in case though. Personally I switched to gun socks on everything for "protection" and just let them lay against each other now. I too thought about the 'broken down' storage method as well, but given i'm stuck in New Germany I have to have all my stocks pinned, and they're too long when laying down perpendicular to the door for it to close.

Wooden dowel down the barrel.

Wood attracts moisture; a Delrin rod or similar does a better job

I think the above is my solution. Its simple, and will work. The Rifle Rod idea is also a good solution. Thanks guys.

First World problems; which I'm about to have, because it wasn't a problem with a single pistol AR and plenty of room in the safe, but the second (coming soon) is about to be a different issue.

One of those projects I'm still working on, an AR rotisserie. Each gun locks on to a UHMW dummy magazine blank. Might be an idea you can build off of.

That is pretty slick and damn I miss that machine shop since I retired. We did a lot of modeling using nylon. I could also do polishing which was an added treat. You have a really cool AR carousel. :)
