flash hiders whatever you call them. It’s the slant type. Would they not be better turned flat/even without the slant? Was thinking it would help with muzzle rise being level. I know the slant was for full auto guns but on a semi it wouldn’t matter.

It's due to the fact that the firearm wants to kick back in the direction of the shooters support hand. Due to there being more right handed people in this world (and in the soviet world eugenics may be used to eliminate the left handed folks...only kidding) the slant break was used to counter that. So for a right handed shooter the support hand being the left hand the slant break has it's open top facing up and to the left to counteract the firearm wanting to head in that direction.

So for anyone that is a lefty that shoots their AK lefty (right hand supporting), they should really consider changing out the slant break as it is working against them.

There's an old soviet publication on this matter that has a picture of what I'm talking about, I'll try and find it to post.

Here it is:

But what I would like to know is if the brake was not slanted but straight would it help with muzzle rise better. The AK for the most part is shot off the rest so the support hand is coming into the equation.

I’m also looking and shopping for another brake/comp that’s not to expensive. Don’t like the look of the 74 brakes

I see, I misread your post. Yes, I would imagine if shooting from a bench supported, one would want a standard affair break or compensator, as the slant break would be causing undesired movement.

I like VG6 breaks/compensators/flash hiders, they are well regarded by many. They have the indexing pin slot, as well as come with a crush washer to be used if using on an AK without the standard affair gas block with indexing pin.

As one can see with looking at the VG6 Epsilon they are a combination break, compensator, flash hider.

The slant break was designed strictly to reduce horizontal dispersion in full auto firing. If you've ever fired one in full auto, you know it is not very effective.

Its a bit big but hands down one of the best options for full auto as well as semi for Ak. A big +1 coming from spetz.
They come in 556 545 762.

AK shoots as soft as the AR now. I didn’t notice any blast off it. Daughter was behind me and to the side and all she said blast was less the the AR and Quieter. Looks good as well. Wish I had done this sooner as groups improved a lot.
