So I've got this compact American. Love this rifle but, it's time to extend the LOP.

Ruger doesn't seem to make a spacer like they do for the American 22lrs, At least nothing I could find on their web page. I did see stocks but they looked to be for standard actions and not for a 223. Plus, I'm not interested in spending $100 just to extend the LOP.

Anyone have any suggestions for a spacer for the compact other than adding a slip on pad? I'm looking for cheap and practical.

There isn't anything drop in that I'm aware of, basically folks who want a longer stock usually just buy another factory or Boyd's.
All Ruger American short actions use the same stocks, and the longs/magnums use basically the same stocks.

You could make a spacer from a chunk of wood or plastic, or do what I did on my RAM and use cable stops, or some other form of spacers....could even use a pile of washers if you wanted. The only issue is the hollow American stock, and I'm not exactly sure how the pads mounted. I'll go look at my old stock in a bit.

Call Ruger. I bought the 1st Compact 223 I saw to get the 18" barrel. Then ordered a full size stock from Ruger. This has been a few years but IIRC it was about $50-$60. I kept the shorter stock for the grandkids to use.

The Boyd's stocks are even more money than the American replacement stocks by ruger. They do look nice.

Adding washers might do it but sounds like adding a lot of weight. Aluminum tubing might work. Interesting.

You would think ruger would make an extension by now for this rifle by now.

Most likely not enough draw.
Id forgotten to go look at the americans pad mounting, ill go check now.

Sappy, not sure if you've resolved this yet but I have a brand new Ruger ranch in 300 blk wearing a standard full length stock and I'd like a compact. Let me know if you'd be interested in a swap.

Also, hello everyone. I've meant to join you folks for some time so thank you for the opportunity.

I haven't resolved the stock issue yet. Shot the rifle 2 weeks ago and it continues to impress me.

Glad it's still working out for you even if it's a little short. We're you interested in trading stocks?

Unfortunately it’s hollow in there. My suggestion would be to look for a take-off on auction sites or buy a spacer from Brownells. I did the opposite, went from full to compact for my daughter.

You can see inside the standard stock’s recess the holes used for the compact version which is cut from the longer version.

The old recoil pad, which could be used for a spacer pattern.

Swapped recoil pads but iirc this didn’t add any appreciable length.
