Yep, just before midnight on Thursday, Feb 21st after many hours of debate, the House judiciary committee voted 7-4 to send HB 19-1177 to the chamber's appropriation committee. A similar bill was voted down last year, saying it infringed on citizen's Second Amendment rights.

But now that the Democrats have won both state chambers, and our new liberal Democrat Governor Jared Polis made this part of his campaign.

This is exactly the same Extreme Protection orders passed in other states -- family members or law enforcement can seek a court order to have your guns seized if they think you pose a threat. If that's approved, then the court can determine to extend that seizure up to an additional 364 days. The person whose guns were seized has the burden of proof that they are not a danger. Guilty until proven innocent!

The NRA sent the usual emails asking members to send letters, and the grass-roots folks are asking for donations so they can lobby.

'Fraid we're done for in Colorado. It's been an uphill battle for the Republicans and other conservatives throughout the entire (mostly rural) state to battle the increasingly liberal Front Range cities of Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins. You'd think a state with this much military presence would be able to overcome such nonsense, but our freedom is about to be severely curtailed.

The bill never passed the CO house. It passed one house committee.

No doubt it will pass the CO house.

Is Colorado Springs that bad? Isn't the Air Force Academy there? I would think with all of the military presence in that city specifically it would be at worst purple, rather than straight up blue.

Good for Colorado. Hopefully this prevents some tragedies.
It won't. It is more likely to cause a tragedy when on-edge cops show up to confiscate from a perceived "threat", than the tragedy that some p.o.'ed ex claims will happen. Stats show that when someone really is a threat, it is ignored, probably in the hopes of furthering the agenda...

Interestingly enough, in the last week, our Company (Commercial construction-related) had contact with an individual in SC who, via emails and phone calls, obviously has some REAL mental imbalances. 'Spooky" does not even begin to describe the 'wavelength' this individual operates on,,,,

If SC (or any state, actually) had legislation as described above, and if his Family or Law Enforcement determined he posed a threat (his emails alone would probably be enough to get him 'well on his way') I would have no problem whatsoever with this individual having any any/all firearms removed from his possession.

I agree that some of this legislation, viewed from the eyes of a law abiding citizen surrounded by law abiding citizens, could sound a bit harsh, but until you come across an individual like I've described above, and actually thought to yourself, "Damn glad I don't live anywhere near this nut-job!!!" can you begin to expand you viewpoint to include 'might not be a bad idea after all!"

But “shall not be infringed!!!!!!”. I sincerely hope this guy doesn’t act on anything.

So, you and The Liberal approve of "pre" crime enforcement? Sorry, but if someone is imbalanced enough to lose their Constitutional rights, then they should not be living free among us in the first place.

Will preemptively removing firearms prevent some tragedy? Probably. But at what cost to our liberty? Gov't loves any excuse to "expand" it's viewpoint into our lives, as we are seeing on a daily basis. Freedom is a messy thing and protecting it can be damned inconvenient, even tragic, at times.

"One sign of insanity is to keep repeating the same thing over and again and expect different results," ~~ Albert Einstein.

Well, that might not be an exact quote, but it gets Einstein's point across.
Gun control has never worked.

We have 20,000 gun control laws in America, and still the libs demand more. Doesn't this tell us something? :uhoh:

We are facing the same thing here in NM and for the same reason as in the OP. Most, maybe all by now, sherriffs are telling them it's unconstituional and they won't enforce the law if it's passed but no one is listening. The NM Sherriff's Association already has their lawsuit ready if it gets made into law as it appears it will. There are other gun control measures that are flying forward that the sherriffs are telling them that there are already laws that address what they are wanting to do but there is a huge deaf ear in Santa Fe. The liberal Democrat idiots are in control and going hog wild with everything. Gun control, raising every tax in the book, completely redoing the schools, you name it, they are going to change it and make it worse.

It is becoming increasingly clear that I will need to relocate to a more free state after I retire. A shame.

Though I'm a long way from retirement, that reality hit me this last cycle. This one was pivotal; if we could have held onto the senate, there'd still be a glimmer of hope. But with an extreme liberal trifecta and dems heading every state office, they'll galvanize CO as a blue state with sanctuary cities to keep illegals voting for them, as well as ways to disenfranchise dissenters. CO will be CA East in a few years.

I can't leave immediately, but the Cheyenne area is in the 3-5 year plan.

Its getting too crowded anyway. I will be checking out the eastern side of WY and the northwest part of NE. The challenge is that my wife will want to live in a far more suburban environment than I wish to tolerate. I suspect a compromise may end up with a piece of land and a cabin in friendlier environs that I spend a lot of time at.

As an aside, things like the above are exactly why we liberals tend to vote for gun control. Look at the above. We liberals apparently have masses of illegal aliens voting with us, have completely ruined the schools (that most of us are too young to control, seeing as how most Millenials are considerably more liberal than the average High Roader), hate freedom and are the antithesis of America. Sounds crazy to me. And the people who propagate these fallacies, who insult and demean their fellow citizens simply based on assumptions, want to have unlimited access to weapons designed specifically to shoot a lot of people well. Is it really that great a leap to assume that the people who express hate for us and stockpile Arsenals with the clear and stated purpose of taking up arms against us might one day act on those stated intentions?

Keeping it gun related, I think the potential for saving lives is high with red flag laws, but i do think that there needs to be robust due process, a reasonable and clear way to demonstrate competency and capacity to own weapons, and penalties for those who abuse the system (both accusers and law enforcement). I also think that we ought to build a red flag law out to include revocation of CCW permits and stiff criminal penalties if those orders are violated

California. 'Nuff said.
are the antithesis of America
America was based on the notion to better oneself through freedom, not through government programs designed to keep poor, lazy people poor and lazy. Yes, democratic socialism IS the antithesis of America.
want to have unlimited access to weapons designed specifically to shoot a lot of people well.
We want to be on equal footing against those who would oppress us, "all enemies, foreign and domestic."
the people who express hate for us and stockpile Arsenals with the clear and stated purpose of taking up arms against us might one day act on those stated intentions?
We have no desire to take up arms against anyone. We simply study history. Historically, disarmament is ALWAYS the first step towards oppression. You seem to believe that the 2A is all about hunting, nostalgia, and a pistol to defend against one possible attacker. That is incorrect. It is to guarantee that the people, not the government, have the power. That is what separates America from the rest of the world. That is why the government has been conditioning people to accept gun control abolition. That is what we oppose. "The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it."

i do think that there needs to be... a reasonable and clear way to demonstrate competency and capacity to own weapons,
I spent 2 months lurking here to determine what kind of place this is, and whether or not I could fit in and contribute. You obviously did not. And, since you clearly did not come to this forum to join in fellowship, but to argue against what everyone here believes in, and to have every thread turn political and get locked, I will follow another members' advice.
"Not the worst idea I've ever heard, but that clown is on the list of 2 people I ignore here. If everyone did that, a ban from the mods wouldn't be needed."
Agreed, and done.

As a resident of Colorado I do not hold out much hope for the future. Denver and Boulder have finally got the man the want in office, and we are going to be the worse for it. We were unable able to repeal the absolutely unenforceable magazine law when we had the chance. They are going to build on it and move the anti gun agenda closer to that of places like CA and NJ.

We already have laws on the books that revoke CCW for anyone arrested for a DV crime and part of bonding on DV charges is a full and total relinquishment of all firearms to include simple possession. The red flag law does nothing that has not already been covered by existing laws. Now, if you are deemed a threat, without having actually broken a law, your rights can be revoked. There is not much hope moving forward, and I'm afraid the nation as a whole is headed down the same ruinous path.

Is your entire purpose here just to troll? Literally every thread I've seen you in, you add nothing to the discussion save for antagonizing and trolling other members.

Its not like differences of opinion aren't tolerated here. If you want to see how its done, in honest conversation (that ironically usually ends up locked anyways), just check out some of the "9mm vs 45" or "AR vs AK" threads.

Edited to ask this question of our Colorado forum members:
Looking in from the outside, it seems like the trouble in Colorado began with the invasion of people from california. For those of you that actually live there, does that seem to be the case or were there other factors?

This state has been as attractive to liberals and Leftists such as Californians and those from other secessionist states, as a Democrat is to a working-person's wallet. This has been going on for several years. One only needs to drive down any roadway here, especially during the rush hours (which are rapidly approaching the traffic levels of Chicagoland) to see the wide array of license plates from places like Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, and each of the Left-Coast states. These are not vacationers rambling about sightseeing. No, they are commuting to their jobs or classes. Those diseased benighted souls are attracted to the Universities and stay after they've been thoroughly indoctrinated into Socialist stupidity and Godless evil. Many come to ski in this beautiful sun-kissed state and don't want to leave. Many Californicators realize they can sell their house back home and buy a house for cash outright here for a relative song. They bring their political poison, perversity, and Socialism and fling it about as monkeys do their poo when agitated. Now, both houses of the State legislatures are infected and corrupt. Our sexual deviant governor lusts for control over we serfs.

When I read your posts I just sit and shake my head. Typical liberal. I think we out to have a red flag law for people that want to destroy the freedoms that our ancestors fought and died for.

Liberal OP resembles a troll that got kicked off the S&W forum recently
