1911 Picture Thread: 2019 Edition

Did somebody say "1911 Pictures?" Yeah, I can do that.

I "only" have 2 so far, a pair of Colt Competition models.

Stainless .38 Super. You may recognize this as the pistol in my avatar. It's a Series 80 gun:

Blued .45 ACP. This one is a Series 70 gun. When I saw it in the case and realized Colt had switched from the very dull, almost painted matte finish to something that looks more like "blue", I had to have it. This one gets more range and carry time than the .38 Super, entirely due to the ease of finding .45 ACP ammo and brass.

Next up, I really want a Colt Lightweight Commander in .45 ACP. Or maybe 9mm. The decision won't be made until it's time to part with the cash.

There are a lot of really nice looking 1911s in this thread.

Like Jayne said, I'll be in my bunk.....:D

That S&W K frame rear sight also reminded me of the customized 1911s Armand Swenson used to make way back when. Always liked the look of his guns with their squared off trigger guard, extended ambi thumb safeties, and the hard chrome plating.

Here's a Colt 1911 and a Remington Rand 1911A1: 1911 GI.jpg

And a series 70 gold cup and a 1963 super 38 (I wonder how they fire?)

And a SA operator, a first year Kimber, and a lightly customized SA milspec that lives in my toolbox...

And a nice customized series 80 commander that belonged to a friend who isn't with us any more.

That '48 Colt was built in the '70s by "Al" Capone at King's Gun Works. He was one of the big name 1911 guys of the time like Swenson, Behlert, Hoag, Clark, etc..

In case you missed this in another thread...

This is a mid-1950's 38 Super Colt M1911 that I bought about 30 years ago. It was barreled for 38 AMU when I bought it. It came with the Ellison sights. I re-barreled it for 38 Super, twice, first with a "head space on the rim" barrel and second with a "head space on the mouth" barrel. Accuracy with standard 38 Super ammunition improved with the second barrel. The first 38 Super barrel was quite accurate shooting 38 caliber 158 grain semi-wadcutters.

Recently, I got an itch to have a 38 Special M1911 so I rebarreled it once again. It is a work in process at present getting the magazines to feed reliably but things are promising. I plan to keep the 38 Super barrel to switch back in the gun if the spirit moves me.

Well, you can’t see it, but there’s a nice picture of a WWI 1911 in this post. I can see it when I edit, but it disappears when I post. It’s in .mps format, whatever that is.

Stripped Fusion frame that I am collecting parts for (pictured with my Fusion GI).

Still not sure if I am going to complete it as another .45 or if mount a dedicated .22LR slide/upper.

A fine collection of 1911s! Like the idea of a dedicated .22 upper on the Fusion frame.
