Ankle carry

Switch to boot carry. Seriously, I was surprised when, at the suggestion of a forum moderator here, I tried my four-inch Ruger Police Service Six in an Unkle Mike's clipped to the inside of one of my Saddlebrooks.

And here I thought the 92FS carried by Arnold in Kindergarten cop would be the biggest ankle carry could go.

Wrong socks. Work better with tactical socks.

On a serious note, one of the guys I work for has gotten away with carrying an ankle holster with a Glock 26 for investigations duty use for YEARS and the chief never said anything about what poor tactics this is... of course he carries a S&W 60 .38 the same way.

Frosts my hide that those guys do that.

I tried it about 25 years ago, but found it was like putting a pair of horseshoes in my left boot when I had to run. I went back to an under my right arm .380 backup with a Velcro section in my uniform shirt to get at it.

For some it works, give it a while and see if it works for you.

Stay safe!

I've worn an LCP in an ankle holster for six years now, though it's a backup, not my primary.

It did take a few weeks before I got used to it. After a month I didn't even notice any more.

Though the LCP is small, the cheap Uncle Mike's holster is not. The overall package is larger than a J-frame in a fitted holster.

If you have a proper holster with a calf strap the gun's weight is barely relevant. But there are a lot of poorly designed holsters - some quite expensive - that just use the top of your shoe to keep from falling off. Having tried mine without the "optional" calf strap, I suspect most of the people who hate ankle holsters tried one of the strapless ones.

Tussled with, chased after, and ran down many a bad guy with a Charter Arms Undercover set up in such a rig, with the calf strap securely in place. Never had an issue at all. That gun was almost fused to me.

Traditional wisdom recommends ankle carry on your off side inside calf.
When I was active duty flying worldwide we had to conceal a S&W model 15 - they gave us shoulder holsters but they were very uncomfortable. I switched to an ankle holster since I was sitting at the FE panel for hours at a time.

I found it most comfortable to wrap the holster around the outside of my boot, positioned on the front of my foot. That kept my leg from feeling unbalanced.

Ankle carry is where light alloy frame short-barrel round butt revolver with lazer light really shines.

Agreed.....Pocket carry is my preferred method, however if I'm going somewhere I'll be sitting a lot or driving, I'll utilize an ankle holster for the lightweight .38

I ankle carry in some secured locations where a surprise robbery isn’t likely, but risk of an active shooter, “Run, Hide, Fight” scenario might be a reality. Allegedly this might be my preferred hypothetical, theoretical, no-I-don’t-carry-where-prohibited-at-work method for carry.

Looks fine to me. Wearing boots might make it more comfortable. Carry on.

I mean you are printing slightly, but who's going to notice?

Years and years ago, I had a pair of combat boots that had been modified with an integral holster. I carried a Walther PPK/S with no problem, except of course for bending over, hiking up my BDUs or jeans, undoing the snap and finally drawing.

These days, I wear cowboy boots and have never found a solution that allows for COMFORTABLE ankle carry. Standard ankle holsters just plain don't work under cowboy boots. The few that supposedly clip on or otherwise attach to your cowboy boots didn't work well for me either. Besides, I don't have the need to carry a backup weapon anymore. (But I did buy a Bugbite concealment holster last year. Gave it to my (adult) kid after wearing it around the house for an hour.)

The other day, I was going to be in an “active shooter/run/hide/fight” place and only for a short while. Was just gonna be walking around, and wasnt going to be doing anything physical.

I wear cowboy or work boots every day with a boot cut jean.

I dropped my j frame in a pocket holster and tucked it into my boot. Wore it around the house for awhile and then went on my errand. Was pleasantly surprised-although not exactly easy to get to, it remained where I put it and I got used to it pretty fast.

Didn’t print where people would notice. My situation was just like that described by varminterror. Will definitely do this again.
