Posted early last week about the nice Mod 66 and Mod 586 I found in a Pawn Shop. Well, when your on a roll, keep rolling. Visited a few shops on Sat and snagged a couple more. Model 36 no dash. Nothing special. Some blue wear but mechanically perfect. Model 66-2 with 2.5” and a mod 66-2 with 6”. Both the Model 66’s are excellent. Neither is pinned or recessed but I’m not complaining. Probably used all my gun finding luck for the year. Ironically, I had ridden down to Myrtle Beach for the Gun Show. It’s usually a great show. Didn’t see anything that interested me. Very few revolvers at this show. Before I rode 1.5 hours home, I decided to hit a few local Pawn shops. All of these were within 6-7 miles of the show. The Pawn Shop Owners all seemed to get a kick out of selling to someone that didn’t find anything at the show.

Very nice haul! I'm particularly envious of the 66-2 with the 6" barrel.

I collect 3" K Frames but I really do like the 6 and 8 3/8" Barrel Smith Revolvers. They are such great shooters. Way better than I'm capable of. I even have a 7" Barrel Model 686. Barrel came off a Performance Center gun and original owner swapped it out for a 4". So I took the barrel and put it on a 6" 686 that didn't like the same hunting loads that my 8 3/8" liked and now I have something that is at least different than anyone else

Under Bad Ass Looking Revolver in the dictionary there’s a picture of that 2.5” 66. I love those things and K frames in general. You have really done well with your “rescues” lately. If I had all those drop in my lap at one time I’d be in the poor house.

I agree on the Bad Ass Looking Revolver, but to me the Really Bas Ass Looking Revolver is a 3” K Frame. With Fixed or Adjustable Sights, they look right, balance right and can be concealed about as easy as a 2 or 2.5”. I’ve probably posted this picture before but I’m right proud of my 3” collection

I share your passion and appreciation for 3" barrels on K frames though I use to collect the same barrel length but in the smaller J frame.

I share your love of 3 inch revolvers

3" Revolvers have followed the trend of Chicken Wings. I can remember when a grocery store would almost pay you to take the chicken wings out of the cooler. Now that Wings have gotten real popular all over the place, the price in the grocery store is close to what chicken breast cost! Same way with 3" Revolvers. Now that people are realizing just how perfect the 3" Barrel feels to most, the prices are really going up. I've seen some really nice 3" Model 66's bring in the $1500-2000 range. 10 years ago, a 2 or 2.5" would easily bring more than the 3". Now if I can figure out what the trend will be in 5 years I can start stocking up!!

Yep I can remember those days when everybody wanted a snubnose .38 Special; Model 36s and especially the Model 60 were the hot ticket and would always fetch top dollar. The poor lonely 3" barrel models would sometimes go for half what their 1 7/8" brethren were going for. I especially had a certain fondness for the Model 36 round butt with the 3" heavy barrel.

I always liked the 3” 36 too with the heavy barrel. Surprisingly in this area, no one wants one. Very under appreciated. A 2” will always sell for more. I had a pair of 3” model 36, one blue and one nickel. Both 95%+ in the box with all paperwork. Decided to sell to fund another purchase. Had a buddy put them on his table at a Pretty decent size Gun Show. I priced to sell quick or so I thought. $550 each or $1000 for pair. Never got a nibble in 2 days! At the same show I sold 6-7 J Frames with 2” Barrels. Mod 36 & 60. All brought $459-500 depending on condition. Wound up sending to a collector friend out west. Amazing what is popular in different areas. Model 15 are the same around here as well. No one wants them. All of us Rednecks her have to have “Magnums”!

I have a friend here who sold a 3” model 65 recently. He was asking $850 for it but would have taken less. I thought he would be taking a lot less.

A day later he had a buyer who did not even dicker on the price.

They are definitely hot.

Here’s mine. Don’t look half bad with the Altamonts. I have noticed the 2 & 3” Model 64’s seem to have more of a polished finish than the 65 & 66’s or maybe itsyjudt the ones I’ve seen

Not sure I'd stare down a live pipe for a photo, but that's a nice 3"
