I started using Green dot with 125 grain bullets recently. The accuracy in my Rossi 92 is outstanding even using a set of Lee dippers.
At 130 yards it holds consistent 1 1/2 inch groups.
The best I was able to get was the occasional 2 inch one with titegroup.
I will be trying this powder in 357 also.

I haven't yet; I used to use 700-x, because that's what I loaded trap rounds with, but now I use Green Dot for my Trap rounds, so when I get to reloading .38 next time, (might be a while, I only have one, rarely shoot it, and about 1000 rounds for it) I will probably use Green Dot. I used to load Blue Dot for HOT .357's, as that's what the duck and pheasant loads used.

I used 700x, but hated weighing every charge. Accuracy was top notch though.
I prefer H110 over Bluedot. In all fairness, I didn't try very hard with blue dot though.

From time to time I have used Green Dot in the .38 Special with success. What I have found is it has a very narrow sweet spot, it looks like you already found it with your load.

It just happened to be an exact match of one of Lee's dippers. I didn't even bother testing beyond that. I'm well under max and am happy with it.

I purchased a couple of pounds of estate sale Green Dot. It was a cardboard container of Green Dot, I assume it is late 70’s to early 80’s. It is old enough that the shiny tinned metal bottom has a small number of rust spots. The powder did not smell ether or bitter, I did not see any red, and I shot it up as quickly as possible as I believe it was at the end of its shelf life.

I was able to conduct chronograph tests in my 38 Special Airweight and more extensive tests in 45 ACP.

My loads shot well in the 38 Special.

Green Dot works well in the 45 ACP. My M1911’s functioned every time on the 700 fps 4.5 grain load. That load had very little recoil and yet clustered well. I judge the accuracy of the ammo by the clustering on my 25 yard gong target. Since I shoot offhand my accuracy is highly variable compared to someone shooting off sandbags. I can say that Green Dot has accuracy potential as it clustered well, but I cannot say that it is any more accurate than any other powder.

Green Dot must be just a little slower burning than Bullseye as 5.0 grains of Green Dot gave me the same velocities as 4.5 grains Bullseye. Green Dot is still a fast burning powder.

I fired my loads in three different M1911’s and I was glad to see that the velocities were similar between the pistols.

Some people are ultra fussy about clean burning powders. I am not. I cannot say Green Dot is a “clean” powder as the wind was whipping through around 15 mph. Any residue in the air was gone before I could see it. My M1911’s cleaned up as usual, but I have must have a higher tolerance about residue than the clean crowd.

I like my practice ammo to be just around 800 fps, or less, so I am loading up several hundred more rounds with the 5.0 grains Green Dot.

I am not looking to replace any of my favorite pistols powders of Bullseye, Unique and 2400 with Green Dot. I am also not looking to add more Green Dot to the collection. But I won’t turn down Green Dot if I get it at a great price as it shoots well in the 38 Special and 45 ACP.

That is basically my second test after a load shoots well at 7 yards getting numbers with the chrono. It used to be shooting bowling pins at 35 yards, but that set up went away at our gun club some years ago. That is when I switched to a 10" steel plate at 25 or more yards. All calibers, if it can shoot good groups on the steel, mostly in the middle, it's a good load for me. Some handguns do better than others, and all handguns with red dots do the best.

Do you have any idea of velocity your are getting?. I shoot a lot of 130gr coated lead bullets with 5.0gr of Universal and gives me around 1000fps out of a revolver but haven't checked with my Rossi Lever gun. I'm going to be in the process of working up some hunting loads for my Rossi Rifle but more than likely will be using the 180gr Coated lead for hogs and 158JHP for Deer. Would rather hunt hogs with my .357 Revolver but one place we are going to be hunting over the summer has too much open ground and probably will be using my lever gun. I don't trust my Revolver over 50 yards on a big hog for penetration but I would think the lever would add enough velocity to go 75-100 yards.

I broke my chrono, so I have no idea on the Green Dot loads. Just that I don't get the supersonic crack, so I'm happy.
Most of my loads are close to what the book says for rifle data.

My Chrono got stolen, so I've been without for a while. Got to pick one up soon. I've never used Green Dot with .38/.357 but for medium loads, I usually stick to Universal and HS-6. For Magnum Loads, I've never found anything that would come close to H110 and 2400. Not sure if Green Dot would get anywhere close to the velocity I would be looking for for hunting. I shoot a lot of revolver targets at 75 yards (that's as far as my range at home allows) and I've found that Universal with the 130gr. Coated Lead does a great job and is very clean and accurate.
I may have to give Green Dot a try. Did try Red Dot and was not impressed at all. Power Pistol has also proved to be a good powder. Right now I have about 5lbs of Universal to shoot up and at 5gr per load, it will take a while.

Green Dot won't give the velocity universal does. It's a bit faster burn rate. I got it for target loads.
H110 and Lil gun are my go-to powders for pushing hard. Lil gun pushes 180s at nearly the same velocities that H110 does 158s when used in a rifle. H110 makes a beast load in 110-158 class.

I tried Lil Gun and it just burns too hot to use with lead bullets. I've pulled some out of a dirt backstop and the bases were deformed due to the heat. Works great with jacketed bullets but for lead and Coated lead I will stick to H110 and 2400. I can get 1350fps with a 180gr HyTek Coated lead out of a 8 3/8" Barrel using H110 and it shoots very accurate. Off a bunch with a red dot tube, I can consistently hit a 4" round plate at 75 yards. I have shot shot a few sub 3" groups but all the stars have to align for me to do that these days. At 50 yards which is my limit for hogs, I can keep it within 2" when I do my part. That's plenty accurate enough for hogs and deer. Most of my shooting is like yours, for target and I very seldom shoot full .357 except when getting ready to hunt. I just don't understand the need to punish one's self with recoil trying to kill a piece of paper! That's why I quit shooting my 44 mag much. When I do its is with light 44 spl loads.

That's why I quit using titegroup. It caused leading with bullets that didn't lead with other powders.
4" is nothing to sneeze at with a handgun.

Sounds like promising results. I usually stock a pound of it when I find myself in need of some grouse/light pheasant loads and burn the remainder up on the trap field after I've loaded a few years supply for hunting. I may have to take a second look at this for handgun reloading. I did experiment with it off the book for a light plinker load in my .41 (my only revolver at the time) and found it reasonably suitable, but less so than unique. I may have to revisit this one as I now load .38/.357 and 9mm as well.

For those who've used these powders, how does it stack up to Unique, WST, Red Dot, BE86 and HP38 for mid weight, low to mid velocity cast bullets in .38 and .357 for general shooting? I do know unique likes the higher side of the pressure curve to burn cleanly, but I keep this in stock for the .41. I'm casually searching for a new powder to replace HP38 in the .38/.357 role once my stock is burned up.
