Last weekend I had the opportunity to go shooting with the husband of one of my wifes friends for the first time. We had a good time, chatted, shot, etc.

He had a Glock (21? 22? the full size .45ACP one) and a Colt 1911 (series 80) and some other pistols that I got a chance to shoot. I let him shoot my S&W 410 (.40) and my Ruger single six.

I've been wanting to shoot a 1911 and a Glock for a long time but never had the chance so this was a great opportunity.

Here it comes.......I really didn't like either one. :what: I enjoyed shooting them both, had a great time, but I still like my S&W better.

I've got my Nomex on, let'er rip.:)

To each their own bud, no one with any sense is going to test your nomex:D :D .

Personally the only S&W auto I would own is the 945 custom shop thingamabob or the 1911. The 'normal' S&W autos don't appeal to me at all and I have owned a handfull plus a couple, I've tried hard to like them but just can't do it. It's a darn shame too with the prices I've gotten on some of the 10X6 models...

I own Glocks and 1911's and find them much more to my liking, Sigs and Beretta/Tauri autos next and then all sorts of guns pretty much across the board.

That's okay. Different strokes for different folks.

We should feel lucky that we have such a wide variety of makes and models to choose from though. There's something out there for everyone.

First time I picked up a 1911 though...oh man. HEAVENLY. I asked it, "where have you been all my life!?"

:neener:

Both the model of 1911 and the .45 A.C.P. cartridge are highly overrated.

Get thee away from me, SW, I never knew ye. It is written "Ye shall not blaspheme JMB" lest ye suffer many malfunctions.:p

Hey, not everyone is built the same. Different hands, different feels, different needs and wants. The 1911A1 isn't the end all, be all for everyone. Although I can heartily understand why you didn't like the Glock. ;)

Both the model of 1911 and the .45 A.C.P. cartridge are highly overrated.

Ah well, more for me.

Buy what you like, shoot what you're competent with, and carry what you're confident in... it works for me... but I still don't like S&W autos... :neener:

I'm one of those people that believes in "one size does not fit all." I personally love the 1911 design, fit like it was made just for me. I've also shot a G17 and saw nothing wrong with it. By far the worst pistol I've ever touched was a S&W Sigma (pre-enhanced). I say, pick what fits you and shoot what you like.

Both .45s shot "softer" than my .40. The Glock naturally pointed up a bit in my hand. Held naturally, the top back edge of the slide would be in a direct horizontal line with the front bottom edge of the slide. (There abouts) The 1911 held fine, pointed find, just kind of felt odd.

Oh well, like many said, to each his own.

A few months after S&W signed the infamous agreement with Klinton , I went to a “Fun Gun Shoot†in the Shoals area of Alabama.
A S&W Rep was there with a table set up with about 12 different pistols on it and a big stack of ammo. It was a great opportunity to shoot pistol models that I had only seen at shows. I found that all of the auto models felt to large for my grip.
At the 2003 SHOT show, I tried all the Glocks as far as holding them. Ditto, too large but I really liked the triggers on them.
It just goes to show, different strokes for different folks.

I don't have a S&W semi so I don't know if I'd like or not.
I sure like S&W revolvers.

What you like and what works for you can't be wrong.:)

The 1911 is my first choice.

There are a few guns I will not own if they are offered free.

Glock is one.
A friend tried to give me his new Glock 17 because of his disappointment in it.
I told him, I don't want it, there's nothing I like about Glocks.

The 1911 is a fine platform but if I'm carrying around something that big I want it to be more potent than the .45 ACP so I made mine the Delta Elite.

Never been a huge fan of S&W autos but I have to admit that I haven't handled one in quite some time. I'm considering picking up a S&W 1006 but the only one in the area has a tag of $630 on it and I don't want to pay that much for the novelty of it :) Plus they have a damn trigger lock on it and won't let me play with it. Cabela's is weird that way.

There is no magic bullet or handgun platform.

1 - You need to have a gun when you need it.
2 - You have to be proficient in it's use.
3 - You need to hit your target first. ( the target is the size of your fist. )

That is the only way to prevent yourself from developing leaks.
