But a carbine receiver extension aka carbine length buffer tube would make that weapon a short barreled rifle, because it would allow attachment of a stock and not a brace. Isnt a pistol buffer tube and a carbine or rifle length buffer tube different?

Take a gander at the tape measure. Mine has a 7 1/2” barrel and an SBA-3 brace that OMLY fits a carbine receiver extension. The OP’s foregrip is fine as previously noted. @MistWolf was kind enough to both answer past questions I had as well as point me in the direction of actual ATF rulings on most things AR pistol related.

Measure that pistol with the brace removed...that's the way that ATF rules state it's to be measured. From the end of the buffer tube to the end of the barrel

I’m old too, but I popped the safe open.

Now add 4” for the OP’s longer barrel.

OP, these are what you want. Got lots of PMags but these work just as good.

No. What makes it a pistol or rifle is how the lower receiver was sold. All of my lower receivers are purchased as "other". I can make it into whatever I like.

While everyone is debating the pistol / rifle portion of the OPs gun, could someone explain the real rules.

I have a 10.5” PSA shockwave and was curious if I have to keep the pistol brace retracted below 26”?

We are discussing the "real" rules.

If his firearm falls under 26" he cannot legally put a VFG on it without paying the tax.

If YOUR 10.5 doesn't have a VFG on it none of this matters.

The only rule in regards to the position of a pistol brace is that if it EXCEEDS 13.5" (LOP) it may be construed as a stock.

No, because you are attaching a Brace and not a stock, you cant attach a stock unless you have paperwork, but you CAN install a pistol brace like the SBA4 or SBA3

NO, you can have it at any lenth you want as long as the LOP (length of pull) distance from the trigger to the rear is within 13.5" max.

From what I gather, that's an ambiguous recommendation from the ATF

That's the case with EVERY BATFE musing... Same with the arbitrary opinion that a firearm less than 26" can't be concealed or it magically turns into an AOW and all manner of opinions not based on any actual legislation.
