I’m hoping someone with it can help me with the numbers especially pressure for a 45 Colt loaded with 11.8 grains of Tightgroup under a 250 grain plated bullet with a standard large pistol primer. I’m not looking at doing this as it happened in a SBH and everything is ok. But it about made me crap my pants when it did go off.
I’m interested in what Quick Load comes up with as the numbers off of LabRadar showed almost double FPS to what 5.9 grains was.

At a quick glance using a Hornady 250/gr XTP (No Cast Bullet Info)
5.5 Barrel

.45 Colt (SAAMI) - .452, 250, Hornady HP/XTP L - 11.8 grs Hodgdon TiteGroup -
OAL 1.580

45,000 @ 1,200+ FPS

NOTE: All of this info could be 100% wrong!!!
I just did a quick look.
I am still very green using this software.

It was 1281 FPS out of a 7 1/2” barrel. Also 2.3 grains more than Hodgdon shows for max Ruger load. Had it checked out and all ok. It may or may not have been 11.8 grains but knowing how it happened it’s pretty good chance that it was.
Thanks for the help.

I am also pretty new/casual user of QL.

I used rainier data file for a 250 grain RN .451, 7.5 inch barrel, 11.8 grains titegroup, 1290 FPS with 42K+ PSI. Seems like QL and your LR agree...

What did the brass and primer look like after that overcharged load? QL lists this as a 'dangerous load do not use' (since it is 3X+ max pressure for standard colt 45 loads). Obviously in any SAA or clone it would be a disaster. In the SBH I have no knowledge, but if the published load manual says it is too much..... glad you and everyone around you is OK.

Well the case extracted a little hard and the primer was a bit flat but not what I would have thought it would have looked like. I should have taken pictures but I was just happy to have all 5 fingers and a revolver that was still in one piece. I’ve had cases extract much harder with full on magnum loads out of my other SBH and S&W revolvers.
I marked the cylinder it was in and had a Smith I use who is very good with revolvers look at it and it all checked out ok. He couldn’t find anything wrong and I’ve shot several hundred rounds of Colt level loads through it since.
It was totally 100% my fault as I know exactly how it happened. In all these years and all those loads it finally happened.
