Hello all. Apparently I am developing a mid-bore addiction. Have a 35 Rem load worked out as my introduction to reloading and seem to have immediately moved on to working something up for my .358 Win. Interesting little gun, is a rebored Rem 7600 with the barrel trimmed down to 19” wearing a red dot. Not a gun I’m expecting to be a tack driver out to 500m or anything, it’s a born and bred brush gun for deer and elk, possibly moose. Looked around at different bullets, starting with Speer 220gn FP. I think if I can get them to 2400 FPS and shooting 2-3 moa I should be good to go. I have BL-(C)2 and 4895 on hand with both CCI 200 and 250 primers. Was thinking about starting with the BL-(C)2 for the lower pressures and the 250 primers and see what I can get. Any suggestions on where to start?

Thsnks.

Hey Spot, thanks for replying. What load is your son using with the H4895? Hodgon’s website is listing 43-47.5 grains for the 220 Speer, but no comment on primers and using a much longer test barrel than mine for their velocities.

I’m running 225 SMKs with VV N140 in my .358 win.

I have no experience with the 220 Speers so I’ll be curious to see your load results. BL-C2 would probably be a good powder for it.
