Fascinating.......Never knew of them. Never knew anyone but the French had Berthiers. Video was interesting. Thanks for posting. P.S. I assume they are still in 8mm Lebel ?

Damn fine question.. The one I saw was in 8mm lebel... So the seller said.. but you know I just took his word for it??? Was not smart enough to ask if he had tested it or shot it.. I am going to assume at this point. Really thought there would be more info out there on it.

The various Greek factions used anything and EVERYTHING between 1900-1945, so while Id never heard of these, I cant say Im surprised.

Even more difficult would be the job of the poor supply officer who had to get ammo and spare parts for all those different weapons!

IIRC, those were mostly used by the forest service people, against poachers, etc.
I seem to recall an episode on Forgotten Weapons.

Forestry guys get some of the coolest hand-me-down stuff in Europe.....

In Germany, the Forestry cops used M1 carbines for many years after WW2 and the Turk rangers used Ottoman contract Martinis and Enfields captured at Galipoli.

Ohhh you are hitting close to my heart, I would like to see more about Turk rangers using Matinis and Enfieds from Galipoli.??. Also the Turks captured a large number of Enfields rifles from the the Indian units at Kut.

You know this has keep me up nights. There is so little information about the efforts made to feed these beasties...

Think of the Spanish Civil War. There are maybe 40+ different small arms that many countries supplied. Where as some shipped current modern military arms many shipped obsolete arms and ammo. Plus to make it nastier, Spain had a vibrant cottage arms industry making its own arms and ammo.

Ouch pity the supply officers.

And in a more organized mess, look at the various rifles that Finland supported in their wars, Carcanos, Japanese rifles, Mosins etc and they were in major ground war during this time and they were supplied by both the Allied and Axis powers at various times..

That rascal keeping the ammo going to the correct units must have had an ulcer..

You know I would love to know how much Turkey spent to customize those carbines for such a limited roll.
I have one. The biggest alteration of which I am aware was to 'scrub' the official French inscription on the top of the receiver and put (Roman alphabet) markings on to show possession by the Turkish Forestry service, and date of acceptance (1949 as I recall). Mine was engraved with a file I think. When I bought it at a gun show, I thought some Bubba had put his name on it.
