1916 Spanish Mauser Data

I started a nifty project of restoring two 1916 Mausers that were in not the worst shape, but certainly not original. One in 7.62x51 and the other in 7x57.

I not looking to debate the strength of the action. No need. Will never hunt with either or shoot massive quantities of ammo through them. As for safety the 7.62 rifle passed the headspace test. Will be taking the 7x57 to a gunsmith for a check up.

What I was looking for were some reduced loads for each. I do have some data that I use with my Roller No 5 for the 7x57. Can't really share brass with that one since its brass for formed for its chamber. I use lead for it with Trail Boss and also some 125 grain copper bullets.

Was thinking of 39 grains of IMR4895 behind a 150 grain FMJ (got a kazillion of these).

I had a GC short rifle m1916 stamped .308win for a while. I never shot it, a d regret it, but I traded it for a nicer gun, which got traded for an outboard motor when mine went down. I recall there being a lot of people advocating to load handloads at 300 savage pressure. I never did...I loaded some trailboss loads and never shot those either... have fun and be safe.

I have a 1916 Mauser I converted to a Scout rifle.

You won't want to use my load, but I will tell you that if your rifle is like mine, it will have a looong throat, which means lower chamber pressures, especially if you seat the bullets long. H4895 and a Remington 150 gr. Core-Lokt made for a very accurate load.

35 whelen, what type of scope and mount setup do you have on your m1916? I just picked one up, had it down the range and she's a shooter. Im going to invest in a scope and mount,that is pretty much what I envisioned for mine.

It an XS Systems scope mount from Brownell's. The scope is a Burris Scout Scope.

I just bought the S&K scout scope mount for a 93 Mauser. It was a no brainer getting it on but it required some tinkering to get it aligned with the barrel. It uses the rear sight base to mount it to the gun.

I know that IMR4895 an H4895 are different, but you might consider this:

I bought an s&k mount for mine as well, have a recycled 4x simmons pro hunter long eye relief scope,I could not get the scope to mount true, ended up taking it to the local gunsmith. He shimmed it and mounted it for me. He also pointed out that the rear sight had been misaligned for a long time, showing me the front sight was almost over to the adjustment limit in the hood. I've got some 168 gr a-maxes over mild imr 4064 charges to test shortly
