Let's see the .22 rifles that make you smile

I always wanted a Nylon 66 but never saw one for sale when I had the money. Still think they are one of the great .22 rifles.

I have several 22lr rifles, but the one that really makes me smile is my 1954 39a, rescued from a pawn shop on terrible shape. Cleaned it up, replaced some parts, and replaced an irreparably cracked stock to get it back in shooting condition. Its far from perfect, and I have more time in it than it would ever be worth, but it is just so slick and fun to shoot.

I get a little bored with .22 sometimes, but not this one. IMG_20200123_211903279.jpg

Two years ago I picked up a Savage Rascal that was not only on sale but had a 50 dollar rebate offer from Savage. Couldn't resist getting it so the step grand daughters would have a smaller size 22 that would suit them better. Then I discovered that it not only makes the kids smile but old timers including me love playing with it also. I'm even guilty of taking it to the range with some of my regular 22's when there's no kids around. It's sort of a great little "novelty gun" that has a very nice aperture sight and a genuine Savage Accutrigger. IMG_1116.JPG Don't have any pictures of old guys playing with this thing yet but I'd love to get some because they're always wearing a big grin when shooting it. Here's a shot of the older step grand daughter shooting it. She now usually shoots my CZ-455 but still reminds me to bring the little rascal along when we go plinking at a friends place. My friend is in his mid 70's and he still takes his turn with it, too. One of these days I'll get a picture of him with it. IMG_2022.JPG .... Smiles all around when this one comes out of the rifle case.

All things considered, .22s are probably my favorite guns to shoot.

My favorite ones to shoot these days for smiles, groups, or accuracy are the BRNO Model 4 and CZ 453 Varmint.

I'm also a 22 Magnum fan, and like to shoot this CZ 452 Lux.

And shooting my Dad's Remington 121 that he had when I was a toddler really brings a smile to my face and fond memories to mind. It's surprisingly accurate.

Dang, you were friend's with Charles Heston? That's awesome.

I wouldn't say that, worked on a couple of second amendment events with him. Recall how articulate and kind he was to everyone he met.

That would be correct but I do have a 550 American 6.5x55. The 512 and 550 are my two favorite
Hmm, I did not recognize it. I haven't seen one for decade or more. How does it shoot?

I don’t have one but this is it....Browning SA-22 View attachment 886716
I have a grade 1 made in Japan version nothing special really about the gun other than the story of how I ended up with it.
Back when I was a kid my brother, my dad n I were at a gun show and dad bought a Belgium grade 2 for my Uncle the same vender had another grade 1 that my brother bought, which kinda thru me cause he already had one. Fast forward 10 or 15 years and I'm at brothers house and I see the grade 2 in his safe, he tells me "uncle gave it to him to clean and he was just keeping it safe" fast forward another 10 or 15 years and uncle who by this time was in money trouble from a gambling addiction asked me to sell off some of his guns, one of which was a unfired in box grade 1 Japanese SA22 which I bought and sold a Belgium made one that i had that had no sentimental value to me. Uncle said it was one that my dad had bought him. I talked to my dad about it but never outed my brother to my Uncle or confronted my brother but I'm pretty sure my brother pulled some shenanigans. A couple years later my Uncle committed suicide and the another couple my brother was killed in a car accident so I guess I'll have to wait to find out for sure.
But my SIL afterwards asked me if there was anything of my brothers that my cousin would want. I told her the story and she gave him the grade 2 which I really felt good about because he was shorted of any heirlooms from my Uncle by his siblings.

Before I got my Ultra Lite Arms 22, I shot this LH Remington 541-S a LOT, (stocked in a std. wood stock)

Love the gun, hate the plastic magazines!

I fixed that with my Remington 582,

But the bolt is on the wrong side!

How about a Remington LH 592, 5mm Magnum? It's not a 22, but it is a rimfire,

At least it has the bolt on the proper side! lol

Then there's that "other" pile of 500 series Remington's lying around waiting for clean up and stocks! Here's a couple of them,

540XR and 541-S

When I show this vintage Marlin 39 to Marlin lovers they often say it's a shame that someone drilled the barrel and mounted a scope. Then I show them the scope's original box and they realize the scope was actually mounted by Marlin we all share big smiles. The rifle's beautiful case colors are also something to smile about.. That would be correct but I do have a 550 American 6.5x55. The 512 and 550 are my two favorite rifles.
I've never had a 512 but have heard great things about them. And I agree on the 550. I love the 550 platform because it's a real Mauser and a joy to operate. My 2002 model 550 Varmint .308 is the most accurate rifle I own or have shot in a setting where I could really judge accuracy/consistency. It just shoots everything I've fed it reallly well, hunting ammo is well under MOA and target ammo like Federal Gold Medal Match 168 grain SMK just seems to group to the ability of the shooter.

This is a Rimfire thread, but for a moment's deviation, here's the 550 Varmint and a 550 American 6.5x55 that I REALLY wanted to buy but it went for too much money for me to justify. Pardon the centerfires, but at least both of these are "sister" guns to the BRNO/CZ rimfires I posted above. :)

I'm sure you're gonna appreciate this next one in 6.5x55 with its lottery-wood stock.

I've only got three .22LR rifles but they're good ones I think. I had a fairly big part in the design of the last one.

So you would be the one who could tell me what's up with these BXR features:

is an adjustable cheek riser coming that would attach in the area of these dimples?

Bergara-BXR-Stock-dimples.jpg

and what is the purpose of the drilled/tapped hole with the 3 holes in a triangular shape around it?
