I ordered a new Paramount and all the extra goodies for a friend. These are made in Spain by Bergara and are touted to shoot a 280 gr bullet at 2200 FPS. We didn't chrono any loads but will in the future.

Today we took it to the range for the first time. Pretty nice set up. He put a Leupold Ultraslam on it and loaded it with 150 gr of Blackhorn ( by volume) and the 280 gr Powerbelt. This was the first time that I have used the Blackhorn powder . It shoots very cleanly. We were shooting 1" groups at a 100 yards and about 2 1/2" at 200. Now we need to tweak the loads and see what it likes. I understand that you are supposed to weigh each charge.

Measure by volume, check for consistency by weighing, and for absolute max accuracy; weigh the bullets, they can vary as much as 5 to 10 gr depending on brand and batch, snipers and long range shooters weigh everything when working loads.

I weigh every charge when shooting Blackhorn powder. It is easy to get inconsistency in the charges when measuring this powder by volume.
YES EXACTLY! I'm a ML owner/shooter for over 30yrs, but I'm a total new'b to super mag .45 & first time exp w/BH209. WOW just WOW what a difference. It takes just a cpl grains over or under what you want to make a noticeable difference in your group size.
I got a new CVA Paramount a few mo. ago. I put a Viper PST gen ll 5-25X50IRMOA scope w/DNZ 1pc Game Reaper mounted directly to my receiver. NO RAIL.
I bought the gun to shoot it at its max capabilities so I started right off w/105gr. B/W BH209 & the PB ELR 280gr bullets. I am impressed. It's as close to an " off the shelf " tack driver ML as you're ever going to see.
After Zeroing @ 100yds 3" high I shot a 3 shot group with only 2 holes showing & they were almost touching. So that was my shooting, not the gun or the ELR'S that nobody wants to give any credit to. They blow a deer off its feet without it knowing what hit it. My 1st Florida deer was a hatrack 6pt 2.5yr old I'd say. He had just started to run, a few long strides from left to right at 135yds. I gave it a quick guess of a lead ( I had only fired 10 rounds @ 100yds until this deer) pulled the trigger & mid-stride all 4 feet in ir it got body-slammed DEAD before it hit the ground. I hit a little high 4" perhaps & a bit back from the heart shot I was trying for. I hit 6-8" before the ribcage ends. It blew an exit wound I could almost put my fist in. Deer # 2 was pretty much the same deer as #1 could have been a twin, 110 yds walking from right to left. I pulled that shot & the deer turned same time as trigger pull. I hit it a bit far back to but at heart shot level. It blew half the deers insides out in a good 3"+ exit splatter on the ground. Deer went 30yrds. Deer #3 young 4pt ( 2 days left in Fl. gun season ) I dropped in his tracks body slammed at 65yds walking almost directly at me. I shot just left of dead center at base of the neck & chest. It knocked him backwards & down instantly. I'm putting a 1pc Titanium 5 port Beast brake on it ( in the works right now & getting barrel threaded 3/4x24 ) & will be testing out some other manufacturers full bore bullets flat & hollow based, with & without wads, weights from 250,270,275,300,310gr Parkers & Fury's when the brake is installed.I must say before closing my post, to the Semi-infamous Variflame LRMP Modules;I've fired 13 rounds all at 105gr b/w bh209 and ZERO LEAKAGE. I read a wise post in what has become a home group of sorts for me. ( I'm not a big internet guy, Neo Neanderthal I jokingly say frequently.) in Modern Muzzleloader Group. We have a 36 page 2019 Paramount Update Page with some great guys. The post suggested to just slightly back out the BP from dead bottom just a few degrees. It was SPOT ON as the lovely Brits would say.
I came across this thread looking for something unrelated to this. I read all & signed up. I hope to have a great experience sharing & learning & some laughing is always good in here as well. Kind regards all from North Central Florida

Not sure which caliber you have but CVA has published new updated BH 209 powder charges for Paramount rifles. --->>> https://www.nmlra.org/news/paramount-reccommended-loads-2021

The new recommended loads of Blackhorn 209 are as follows:

.40 Cal - 150 grains by volume (105 by weight)

.45 Cal - 160 grains by volume (112 by weight)

.50 Cal - 170 grains by volume (119 by weight)

Yes, BlackHorn 209 is more powerful than black powder. Just multiply the normal weight of the black powder load by 0.7 to get an equivalent charge of BlackHorn.

I like to shoot a 90 gr. black powder charge in my Hawken so with a Mag-Spark adapter I use 63 gr. by weight of BlackHorn.
