My nephew was offered a Ithaca 16ga double barrel yesterday . It is the New Field Grade model . He said it has a short stock ( 13 1/2” to the furthest trigger ) and a recoil pad , with a 26” barrel . I would say condition is good .

He asked me what it was worth . I told him that is one I will have to ask about myself . I told him if I were to guess , $600 to $800 dollars .

What price would you put on it from my description ?

I called Ithaca and they said it was made in 1952 and is worth $300 to $350 in 80 condition .

If it's in good working order I'd say $300 is a good price. Willing to bet those folks trying to get $800 for one would never pay that themselves.
A 16ga is something I've never had the pleasure of shooting.

An underused early Ithaca is a beautiful thing. Without looking harder in person - sounds like you're describing a $300 shotgun easily.

I'd look closely at the stock length and the quality of the pad.

I concur, about $300. I have a friend that has a 20 gauge with two matching barrels, one is 26" SK and SK, the other is 28" Mod and Full. He picked it up about 8 years ago for $600, condition about 85%. I think the matched barrels made it a rarity.

It seems like run of the mill Savage 311's are selling in the $300 range. I would imagine an Ithaca would be a step or two above that.

Personally I'd be loathe to pay more than 300 for that type of shotgun. But that's basically the upper end of a Savage 311....and I haven't found the Ithacas to shoulder any better. YMMV.

I shoulder it today and it shoulder very nice and well balanced .
If you like it and it likes you and it is right & tight - set it against all those other 16 ga. SxSs being made today:evil: and see if it's worth it to you.

What other folk think it is worth won't matter a tinker's damn if you pass on it and regret it.

Todd.

My nephew got the Ithaca in a trade . After my nephew told him what it was worth he said that he was going to take it to a gun store and sell it for $250 dollars . My nephew said I will give you that and he said no , I will trade it to you for your 870 youth shotgun and you wield the muffler on my truck . I told my nephew he should still give him $50 or $100 dollars to go with it . They are friends and work together and not count the muffler as part of the deal because he helps you when asked .

If it was a 20ga I would not had a problem giving him $400 dollars for it , the way it fit me .

I would agree with the statement, if your happy that's what's most important.
