Up until several weeks ago I had never heard about the 722. 721 yes, but not the 722. My first center fire was a 700 ADL that I bought in 67 in .243 with a Lyman 48 for $129.95 & two boxes of 100 gr. Winchester power points. I had the barrel and action bedded. I had to sell it due to a shortage of funds.

Refresh my memory. .244 Remington is the same as 6mm Remington?

Yes, I am a huge fan of the .244 Remington/6mm Remington. It is a great ranch round for varmints, deer, and pigs. I believe the .244 had a 1/12 twist for the lighter bullets and the 6mm Remington went to a 1/9 for the heavier bullets to compete with the .243 Winchester. I think that some of the later 722's had the 1/9 twist as well.

Nice! My brother scored one in 222 a few years back. Truly a sweet shooting rifle.

I found a 722 in 222, several years ago, in a little out of the way gun shop, driving through Oklahoma. It was in excellent condition and priced right. 722s and 721s are very well made guns. They are not quite as refined as the model 700. They are very nice guns from a bygone time.

I beg to differ sir most 700’s I’ve handled can’t shoot as well as a 722

Refined, has nothing to do with accuracy. I was speaking to the way the trigger guard is fitted, checkering, stock finish, etc. As far as that goes, I have a 788, that will shoot with any rifle out there. I was just stating Remington had everything together and done right when they brought the 700 out. Nothing more. I wasn’t knocking the 722 in anyway.

I'm really starting to like 722's. Was never exposed to 721-722's much in the past, but after seeing a few and shooting a couple it's beginning to grow on me. A buddy picked up a nice 1958 vintage 722 in 244 Rem. last year and it's a shooter! The 244 is also a nice deer cartridge, and responds well to handloading. Last month three of us were ringing steel with it offhand on a 13 degree day, just for grins, with two of us very unfamiliar with it, but everyone was easily hitting what they aimed at.
Wish I had better pix of his 722; I'll get some eventually. Looking forward to the O P's 722 pix.
