Well... and be careful. When I got my C&H tool, which works basically the same as your RCBS, I was running the ram too deep... I was actually bottoming out the ram and bending the rim of the cartridge! It almost seems like you aren't doing anything when properly set... and that's OK, because you are. Proof will be if you can seat a primer...

Dumb question... and I don't know the specifics of the CA laws, now... but can't you road trip to Reno or somewhere?

It's illegal to bring ammo into CA. I think there is a very small limit you can have say if you were coming back from a hunting trip or shooting event. I try to do things in way that will not get me into trouble. Probably would never get caught but I wouldn't risk it.

The stupid CA laws is what got me into reloading. It's gotten so bad that range pick up brass where I shoot is getting hard to find. You only seem to find the junk that can not be reloaded or 9mm brass. I have picked up so much 9mm brass I decided to build a 9mm upper. My barrel and Endo mag should be delivered tomorrow so I can finish it.

How is the govt going to know if you took ammo out of state and are just returning with it or if bought before the registration was implemented.

I just lightly tap the crimp with a 3/16" drill bit.
The 4 point crimps grab the bit so you have to hold onto the case more.
The Lee neck de burring tool works as well but is more time consuming.

Like I said I don't know how you would get caught but I wouldn't want to find out. I would also think for me to drive 8 hours round trip to Reno or 6 hours to Oregon and back that would probably cost me more in the long run than paying full cost locally.

Well... and I'm thinking case quantities, which is how I buy 5.56mm. I love Reno, I don't need much of a reason to want to go there, even if it's a 6- or 8-hour drive. Shoot, I drive 18 hours to Las Vegas... ;) I used to haul a lot in and out of CA, and this was back in the '90's, and just dealing with the CA DOT... and how they decided to interpret the laws that particular day, I wouldn't put anything past them, and I know they used to have agriculture checks and such coming in and out of CA. I feel for you, man.

Yes they still have the agriculture stations at the border. The dot is a joke here. I have a CDL but I really don't use it anymore. Out of the top two weigh stations in CA I live about 10 miles north of the the worst one. I could tell you stories for days. I am at the point where I go to work and come home and after that I don't want to leave my house. I have relatives both north and east of me but I spent so much time away from home that I don't go visit them unless I I have to.

Recently I purchased some "factory" reloads for a Very good price, about $.20, and after firing I noticed no crimps:), now they are all loaded with 62gr sp.
Somehow I wound up with a lot of perfecta brass when I picked up some at a range and I think every one had offset primer holes.

No, it requires very little effort,

If it can be done, I can over do it!;)

As I look at the swage pin, I am sure I tried to bottom the thing out, rather than just make the pocket cylindrical again.

Once I finished the six hundred Perfecta cases I put the die in the box and it’s set since. Maybe these were a bit tight? I did not try any other brands of brass. I do have a five gallon bucket of brass to go through from the kids at the cabin, so I imagine there to be quite a few to revisit this with.

The chamfer tool/countersink in a drill is fast, but I bought the die in the first place to do this.:D

I watched a bunch of YouTube videos on this and the several different ways to remove the crimp. I would imagine there are several ways to ruin your brass. I think I will probably buy the rcbs kit for the press.

A little case lube on the nub of the rcbs will make the process go way more smooth.

Easy primer pocket de-crimp: Drill a hole in a small piece of pine board, large enough that a case will go about halfway through before it sticks. Clamp that on the stage of your drill press. Chuck up primer pocket uniformer with a bevel at the mouth of the pocket. Stick a case in the hole, lower the chuck, yank the case out, and go on to the next one. You can do 100 in just a few minutes. Keep a small mallet handy to free cases that don't want to leave their new home.

Interesting idea. I was actually thinking about doing something similar when I started doing more research on this. The way things are going I might end up with plenty of time to figure out a way or two to get this done.
