Being embarrassed

My collection is just a limited combination for the range, along with several handguns for range and carry variety..

On a very Different note, >>simply as food for thought<< (this scene is extremely unlikely anywhere), how many guns does each South Central LA Korean have here?

Do you see a leather/cloth satchel (etc) of extra magazines? Any possible box of extra shotgun shells? Maybe in the background. One can't acquire a Mini 14, AR-15, AKM clone etc without soon having twenty magazines.;)
Otherwise the gun won't function.

* Sense of humor folks, sense of humor. I'm not being all that serious.
Stay loose------- I keep about four Hungarian Tanker (AKM) mags in a leather pouch, because it looks kind of cool.

Never have been embarrassed by the amount of guns I did or didn't have. Trying to think of a circumstance, where a bunch of gun owners are belittling the guy, amongst them, with the fewest guns ?
Or what ?

Is thirty enough? Oh, wait the P-32.
Is thirt... And the whomped out Stevens.
Is thirty two enough? Should I get more? I can.(and will, not dead yet...)

Wait. Did I just forget how many I had?
Just for a minute?

:)

I have what I consider to be a modest collection of handguns (my favorites), rifles (really only a couple that I shoot regularly), and shotguns (use to have more when I hunted; nowadays mainly for home defense use). Enjoy semi-autos slightly more the wheelguns but have a long standing, deep abiding passion for single action revolvers. Happy with what I have; could still have room for a few more in the safe.

Why would anyone be embarrassed by the number of guns they may own or not own? It's your hobby to pursue as you please, for you own reasons. Don't let other people's opinions sway you.

I have a little more than half the number of guns I had a year ago. I was happy with the accumulation I had last April. I'm happy with the accumulation I have this April. My needs, wants and flights of fancy were satisfied at both points in time. What's to be embarrassed about?

Now, I must say, at this point in time my experience with the "man with one gun" is NOT that he knows how to use it. Typically that one gun is either a barely used old hunting rifle with the original box of "20 shells" still with it, or a revolver that's sat in a sock drawer for 4 decades, also with the "original box of shells" all included. Neither person is a master of that one firearm, or any firearm. If there's anything to fear from this person, it's his gun handling and safety.

I wasn't embarrassed when I had only one gun but I knew that gun had limited capabilities.

I quickly bought guns for every possible situation for where I live (with in reason, no anti tank guns)

The reasons for buying more guns are endless but one of the most common is a person trying to find the perfect carry gun. It took 5 different guns before I found the perfect carry gun for me.

Then is the stage where a person buys range toys or neat guns, like a 454 Casull. Most people have no need for it but it's a bad a**, cool and impressive beast.

Yes and no.

The quantity might be outrageous to a non-shooter, but I don't even have a proper hunting rifle, semiautomatic rimfire pistol, or an AR15 of any flavor.

But on my days off I just sleep the whole time so it doesn't really matter and I might as well save the money.

I learned on a collector’s forum that some folks have multiple hundreds of guns in their collection. Even saw an article recently about a fella who left behind 814 guns for his family to sort. Collections ranging from 250 to 500 are not uncommon. Good for them, but I could never keep up with those Joneses.

From that point on I decided just to run my own show, bring home what made me happy, and never to be embarrassed about what firearms I choose to keep in my house.

Not at all and I'm on the lower end of the spectrum with only the EDC's and back up EDC for the wife and I. I did just get my funding for a rifle and ar pistol but will wait till times are a bit mellower. They aren't a need as we are city dwellers and don't really have a use for them outside of the range.

Besides I have other hobbies that I get to do more than shooting, like dumping money into my car and bike.

There's a fine line between collector and hoarder. Do you buy guns (that you intend to keep) simply because they're available and affordable, to stack like cordwood and prevent others from owning? Or do you only buy what fits your specific tastes that you admire? If the answer is the former, that's what should be an embarrassment. If the latter, then quantity shouldn't be a factor in how you feel.

Is anyone embarrassed that they don't have enough guns?
Embarrassment is a social emotion. It only comes into play in relation to another person or persons with whom you are interacting. Embarrassment about not having enough guns is only relevant around other gun people, such as on this forum. In general society, the embarrassment would run the other way, when you have too many guns. That's why I don't display or talk about my guns unless I know who I'm dealing with.

I'm not embarrased by the number.
I'm embarrased that none of my rifles hold one inch at 500 yards like every one else's.

THIS. Internet accuracy always seems to be epic. Maybe I don't get out much, but I never see accuracy like this, on a real range.

I used to be embarrassed about my $50 pump shotgun, my savage axis, my savage mark II, my single shot deer rifle and then it hit me that they all go bang, all do what they need to do. Yeah, they don't look pretty and sometimes something better would get the job done. I used to feel embarrassed when I broke out the axis to shoot paper and hunt with but it shoots just as well as a Rem 700 of twice the cost.

I simply do not believe you.

You are the only person I have ever known to be embarrassed by owning a large and nice collection.

Is Jay Leno embarrassed by his cars?
Was my Grandmother demurred by her sewing machines?
Is my father bashful of his many tools?
Is a tree surgeon worried about the number of chainsaws he has?
Is a Shepard reticent of the number of his flock?

No.
No human that works that hard to accomplish should. Not even you.

Yet, you portend that gun owners should be self-conscious of their owning firearms...
Because of the embarrassment? Really?!

Complete blatherskite.

You have issues, of that there is no doubt, but keep them to yourself and don’t try to project them on to me.

Why you would let the great “Unwashed of D.C.” make you feel shame is beyond me.
How you could spend so much on actual machine guns and then spout the stuff you do, in fathomable.

That's why I don't display or talk about my guns unless I know who I'm dealing with.

You are careful about talking with others to shield yourself from the humility of the hobby you love?!

You need a release from your chains, brother.

No human, not even your (redacted) need feel humiliated by their collections, hobbies, pastimes or enjoyments.
Doubly so if they are good at it.
