In the Before Times I would shoot at my folk's farm when I visited, not often enough. Occasionally a commercial range. Right now we are staying home, and I am only working 3 days a week, so I got one of the laser training systems (iTargetPro) and am working on skills to get up to at least mediocre/average shooting.

I find from martial arts experience that the best progess is made from not overly long sessions with a single clear goal. The goal can have multiple details that add together but they should not be too many... 3 maximum, for me. More and you can't keep them all in the forefront of your mind at once. Today my goal was to compress my hits towards the centerline, i.e, reduce the horizontal spread.

The details to reach the goal:
1. Put front sight in the center of the rear sight.
2. Put the front sight on the center line of the target.
3. Keep it centered by pulling the trigger straight back.

I didn't worry too much about the vertical, just on reducing left/right motion. Anyone else working more drills at home?

I went to the USCCA meet a few years back.

I saw a great price on the SERT pistols [ laser dedicated Glock 17 ].

I bought it and still in love with it,was going to range weekly or even twice a week --- until this crap hit the fan.

I can still go,but the weather is a bit messy and so I have used that laser pistol and my EDC rig [ I EDC a G-19 ] to train in my basement.

Wonderful knowing with COMPLETE confidence that there is no way on this planet the gun can fire a live round.

I have and will still use live guns after clearing [ 3 times at least ] for practice, but LOVE the laser gun.

p.s. forgot to mention ,that I use combat scary picture targets and I practice the Mozambique drill [ called many things ,like fail to stop,or body armor drill ] 2 to the chest & 1 to the head.

Yes, G-Sight laser cartridge and the garage door hinges as targets. Roughly .25 of the area of a typical A zone.

Slow repetition followed by timed draws, followed by slow repetition. Working basic fundamentals of draw, presentation, sight acquisition, sight / target focus, trigger press.

I believe it has helped, but I really won't know until the next competition opportunity.

No more dry fire than before this whole shutdown started.

Before I was dry firing 2-3 nights a week with one live fire session at home on the weekends and one IDPA match every Monday, and another one weekend a month.

Between the trouble sourcing ammo, everything shut down and me in the process of rebuilding my backstop at home it's been over a month since I've fired a round.

To many a month without shooting doesnt sound like a big deal but for me its left a hole.

Like I've said before dry firing is great but it's not replacement for live fire practice.

I'm not (still have access to live fire range) but have seen many of our cadets who have difficulty improve quite a bit with laser systems. They can be a good tool.

Using a Cheapshot.com laser bullet with iTargetPro app. Before I got it I had been doing dry-fire about 20 min every morning for 4-5 weeks. The laser makes it a bit more interesting and the app gives me a photo record of my accuracy (or lack of).
The app is free to download. The laser is about $34 including shipping. I feel that it’s worth it.

My dry fire has increased exponentially since quarantine and getting a laser. My wife ask every night if it’s dry fire time.

I’m using the G-Sight laser cartridge and app on a FAST target.

My routine:

10 rds on the 3x5 at 13 yds
10 presentations from concealment to the 3x5 at 7 yds
10 presentations from concealment to the 8” at 7 yds
10 presentations from low ready to the 3x5 at 7 yds
10 presentations from low ready to the 8” at 7 yds
10 presentations stepping off line from concealment to the 8” at 5 yds
10 presentations strong hand only from concealment to the 8” at 5 yds
10 rds on the 3x5 SHO at 5 yds
10 rds on the 3x5 WHO at 5 yds

I need to come up with one more drill for an even 100 reps.

I am not using a laser, but am using a red dot sight, an Aimpoint ACRO P-1, to work on Glock trigger control. The red dot is an excellent indicator of a bobble-free trigger press, and I am looking at the same part of the weapon as I see when doing live-fire.

I have considered adding a laser to a defensive long gun, to better enable below-eye-level shooting.
