Heya, I have a couple hundred pounds of brass I need to get rid of. After 20 years of sweeping up brass, planning on reloading one day, ‘looks like that day won’t happen.

I don’t to sell brass to the scrap yard when a reloader can use it.

If I ship it to a reloading company, when postage is factored in, I get maybe $1 a pound.

The scrap yard will give me $1 a pound, and it is three blocks away.

I am not sure anybody wants the 9mm to reload.

The other calibers are .40, .45 and 10mm.

Which calibers are worth the effort of finding a reloader for them?

There all worth the effort if you want to sell it, someone will purchase it. On your list 10mm is probably the hardest brass to find. If you don't want to take the time to list the brass then just scrap it. With the current shortages and price gouging I would think if you list the brass at a fair price it wont take long to move.

Stick 'em in the classifieds. Even dirty, they'd be worth more than as scrap. I'd buy some of the .38 and .45 (if you mean .45ACP, that is), cleaned or not. A gunshop I frequent sells dirty brass, and they get ten cents apiece for .45ACP and eight cents for .38. My brass supply started there. It wouldn't be a huge effort on your part, you can use those plasticized large shipping envelopes and some packing tape, and the post office gives away Priority Mail boxes if you want to use those.

Wow, that seems pricey for uncleaned, once or more fired pistol brass.

I just bought an AMMO-UP brass picker upper thingy majig. I’m picking up everything now. It all goes into bins and will be used for trading down the road. Perhaps on this site. I know my local range appreciates it too.

Hi...
Could only vote for one do I picked 10mm because it is the one I have the least of.
I save all brass either to reload or as a possible trade item.
I have many thousands of each caliber listed and constantly reload for each caliber.

Since I wasn't allowed multiple selections I couldn't vote.

I save ANY reloadable brass. If I can't use it I can use it as trading stock or just give it away.

I'll gladly take some 10mm off your hands if the price is right.

If the OP sees this I'm actually interested in some 45acp. PM me if your willing to sort out a few hundred pieces of a single brand.

There are 115 9mms in a pound. At $1.00 a lb, for $10.00 worth that is 1150 cases. At the going price of .03 a case, which was before everything got bought out, is $30.00 per thousand, that's three times what scrap price is. It's .03 a piece uncleaned.
If you list them here for .02 a case and charge for shipping you'll be doubling your money for what the scrap yard is offering. Are you retired?
Ship them through the postal service, uncleaned, as once fired brass, and you'll make money on them.

I am not sure anybody wants the 9mm to reload.

You would be amazed how many reloaders load 9mms, I load all my 9mms for $7.50 per 50 rounds with buying jacketed hollow point bullets to shoot out of them. That's $.15 a piece. The cheapest I can buy factory loads was $11.00 per 50 of plated or FMJs and they are getting more expensive every day. That is $3.50 a box of 50 I am saving over buying 50 factory loads at $11.00 a box.
That was before the virus. Now I see prices going way up for fired brass from all the brass retailers.

You could list some of them here as a trial run to see if they sell, and if you sell them cheap, at .02 a piece, plus shipping, doubling what the scrap price of what 9mm is, I think they will sell just fine. You may be able to get $.03 piece for them and they will sell just fine.
There are a lot of us that don't have access to free brass and it's easy for those that do, to think it isn't worth much. I used to be able to get used 9mm brass for $70.00 per 3000 cases, but that dried up when the virus hit.

The ones you have dies for.

When I find something I don't have dies for, I GIVE it to one of my friends who does.

Please don't sell the brass to a scrap yard, well it to reloaders.

45 ACP is popular because of the price of factory ammo as is 10mm. The .38 Special isn't seen much at the range so it will also sell.

The 40 S&W and 9mm are common but will still sell all be it at a lesser price.

Make a bunch of readers happy by selling your brass at a good price on this forum in the "Buy, Sell and Trade: Reloading Components and Gear" sub-forum.

All is worth more than scrap. I would think now would be a good time to sell. There are lots of people sitting around looking for stuff to do.

I bought 2,000 pieces of .38 Special for $96 a month ago and thought that was a good deal. 9mm usually gets at least $.02 to $03 a piece.

I buy it locally at .03-.04 per casing dirty....just picked up a bunch of cleaned at 40/1000 from another member plus shipping.
10mm and 45ACP always a demand for...but I will gladly load 9mm and shoot it.

Keep any cartridge cases that you have guns that shoot them. You'll be glad when the next shortage happens which could be as soon. .

I'd suggest you sort them - clean them if possibible - and box or bag them. They sell easier when they're sorted. If there is a gun show around, take them and make sure people know about it. You'll probably not get enough to skip to Rio, but probably better than a scrap dealer, and you'll get to hang around with kindred spirits and see lots of things to broaden your horizons.

OP, what part of the country are you located? If you are near me, (Kansas), I will buy the 9, 10, and 45. $3 a pound

Each caliber has value for sure. I use to never pick up 9mm because I didn’t think I would ever fool with it and just left it for the next guy. Now that I reload it I never find any laying. Which our local public range is hit by people collecting to sell for scrap. Don’t even see rimfire laying on the ground.

Everything you listed will sell. Some faster and for more than others. If you fired it yourself and know its once fired it may fetch a little more. Listed in order of value I would think;

10mm
38 special
45
40
9mm

This is just my opinion. The 38 and 45 might swap places. Check the classifieds for what its selling for. USPS flat rate boxes are your friend!

I just sold 8000 9mm for 2.5 cents ea face to face.

I have almost three 5 gallon buckets of scrap brass ( crushed, split, corroded) that I plan to sell whenever this virus thing ends. Local scrap yards went from refusing to take it to $1 a pound.
