I've been interested in a Russian Combo gun but it seems I'm late to the party, after shooting a M6 scout (made by Those who shan't be named) the idea and handyness of the combo over and under in a more substantial caliber peaked my curiosity. I want a Bakhail MP-94 in 7.62x39 and 12ga but cant find one. My questions are, is there a place that still have these or is there a similar rifle that would fit the bill? Thanks Highroadians

Russian guns are banned from import I believe.

Might be able to find one in Canada and import but that will be cost prohibitive if its possible.

Id get a Savage o/u or a single barrel like a TC or Handi Rifle with a spare barrel

Savage used to make a model 24 Combo gun with a choice of 410, 20, and 12 shotgun barrel under a variety of rifle uppers of 22 LR, 22 mag, 357, either 222 or 223 or both. There may have been more choices, but those are what comes to mind. I bought a 22 LR/20 ga in 1970, still have it.

I’m not sure when they quit making them, but I recall seeing a promo release showing the return of the 22/410 not too long ago. Maybe other options are to follow?

Best bet currently for something of reasonable power is to buy an O/U shotgun and a chamber adapter for the centerfire rifle caliber of your choice, but understand that you are highly limited by pressure. Pistol calibers might be doable, but I seriously doubt that rifle calibers are gonna happen.

Option B: buy a drilling.

Savage made the M24 in .30-30/20ga.
Exactly what you want.
.30-30 offers similar but better ballistics than the 7.62x39.
20ga gives adequate shotgun performance.
The M24 I had in .222/20ga was very disappointing. The .222 strung vertically. Lock-up issues.
Dumped it...

Baikal is a lake in Russia and was a brand name used for civilian guns made by Izhmash, maybe other manufacturers. Saiga, the name of a type of antelope, was also used as a brand name. Due to current trade restrictions, import has been largely curtailed.

Combination guns seem like a great idea, and many enjoy the Savage 24 in various types, but others found the guns frustrating. Your best bet is to find a used specimen but I hope you will have the opportunity to try before you buy.

For me, a combo gun in two calibers with such crossover in capability never made much sense. Considering a slug from a 12ga will do for you anything the 7.62x39 would do it seems like that combo defeats the point of a combo, so for me, .22lr over 20/12ga (or a larger rifle caliber like 308) is really the only combo that makes much sense.

They also made them with 30-30 rifle barrels and a few hens teeth in 357 Maximum. The 12 ga models use a large frame and are very heavy. A 30-30 / 20 would be pretty versatile.

I have a model 24 that is 22/20. Ideal squirrel gun. If you have a backstop you plug them with the rifle. If they are out on a limb, shotgun time. Mine has an extremely full choke and would make a really nice turkey gun if I hunted them as anything but an opportunistic thing in the Fall.

I have a 22/410 Baikal. It is nice enough except for the trigger, which is heavy. I always wanted to try out a centerfire version, but they go for crazy money on the used market due to the import ban. You could almost buy a drilling for the money. Barrel regulation is always an issue with combo guns.

I can find the 308 version and that would make a ton more sense and simplify reloading components but I'm stupid like that:). Also I think with what I can do with a 30 cal projectile and since I could still shoot a slug having just a break barrel or a single shot doesnt have the benefits a O/U combo has
