I'm looking at the Stoeger STR-9 and having some strange fascination with inexpensive-yet-quality firearms, I'm tempted to purchase one... especially at the $249 NIB prices I'm seeing them go for on occasion.

I don't have an immediate use for it, but that's the same with the other "budget" handguns I own (SAR9s, G2Cs, Caniks, SD9 and many milsurp handguns). It's a condition I have I believe.

Before someone says to save up and buy something better, I already have a slew of other firearms that I would suspect that same person would believe to be "better". I simply would like to know more about the STR-9.

Does anyone here have an hand's-on experience with one of these pistols?

I was set to buy one since they came out. I got a hold of one and got to dry-fire it at the store. It was HORRIBLE !!!! It looked great but the trigger felt like a piece of metal being dragged down a gravel road. I have read that some other people had strikers that would not reset in them and had to send them off. I too am like you and like to try the inexspensive firearms but this one was too "iffy" with that trigger and striker troubles. Right now I am waiting for the PSA-9 Dagger to be released to the public. At MSRP $299 and it being an almost Glock copy , it should be pretty reliable.

I do not own one but very familiar with them. The one's I have shot performed Very well. Brake one down and you can see it is very well built. Trigger is a striker fired like many, a tad heavy but fine for what it is designed for. Any grittiness was not present on the guns I have fired. I believe that would be the coating they put on the triggers that wears off like some Beretta's, Personally I think they are heck of a good deal. The Grip is a little big for my taste, but others love it. I think if you get the chance to shoot one, you will be pleasantly surprised. At $250.00, it is IMO a great deal.

Wow, talk about being broadsided. I never heard of the PSA Dagger before but now I'm all ears. I have to have one. Thanks for that head's-up!

I too am waiting for the PSA Dagger that takes Glock Mags.

Really no point in getting the Stoeger STR-9 and not having the Glock Mag compatibility.
