A friend's father was a well-renowned Parker shotgun expert who had written books on the subject. He passed away suddenly about five years ago and his daughter asked me if I knew how the family could sell quite a few stunning pieces of English Walnut (Circassian) that he had bought over the years. He would buy matched pieces and would make and fit beautiful pieces of wood to various shotguns. I recently took some photos and am hoping that someone here has an idea as to how the family could sell them and get a fair price.

Here's an example of a matched set. I can post a pdf file which has all of the available pieces if it will help.

He passed away five years ago but the wood is in Montana. There are seventeen matched sets and three half sets including two with wood for the butt stock and one intended as a forend. Here's another example.

I haven't a clue as far as selling something like that goes but you sure are right about those being truly gorgeous pieces of English Walnut!

Maybe contact some custom stock makers or else see if one of the gun auction houses would be interested in listing them.

Yes, gorgeous for sure. He does have one piece that he had marked for a Winchester Model 70 rifle ... the only piece long enough.

I just called Rock Island Auction Company and spoke to a very nice woman in acquisitions but she had no idea how I would go about selling these pieces. I think I'll look for high-end American shotgun manufacturers and try calling someone in purchasing.

I see that Gunbroker has some walnut shotgun blanks for sale. The problem with listing on Gunbroker is that we have no idea as to what these pieces are worth.

@kudu, thanks for those useful links. I sent an email and pdf to Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company to see if they have any interest in the blanks. It would be good for the family if they could sell them all as one lot. I could contact Old Tree Gun Blanks too and see if they have any interest.

I do not know how to do it but you are looking at $10,000 to $20,000 worth of wood if they are all that good. It will be worth the effort to figure it out and maybe do the selling yourself.

Someone at CSMC has expressed an interest in some of the pieces so I asked them to make an offer on the pieces they wanted. Here's a link to a pdf file (54MB) that shows all of the pieces.

Some pretty wood there, wish I was confident enough to make my own stocks on a couple of my shotguns. Good luck with them, hope you get a nice offer.

did you ever sell the wood?

best

No ... my friend still has it all. If anyone has any ideas on how she might sell it for a fair price please let me know. COVID hasn't helped the situation much either.

I would contact Cole's Guns in Naples, FL; Doug Turnbull in NY, S&S from Montana; and a plethora of other custom stock makers to see if they are interested.
