My friend/neighbor just inherited a 12 gauge; 3/4" chambered, Ithaca Model 37 from his father-in-law. He'd like to know when it was made (serial no. 986-3xx) and how much it's worth (for insurance purposes, as he plans on keeping it as an heirloom). The gun has a full-choked, 30" long barrel with a vent rib. Impressed "checkering" is on the pistol-grip and it has no grip-cap. The butt has a simple plastic plate. The usual hunting scene-type etchings are on each side of the receiver. The fore-end is of the "corncob"/"ringtail" configuration.
The gun is in impeccable condition; almost but not quite "mint". There are absolutely no marks on the wood and no rust anywhere. The gun appears to have its original finish in its entirety.
So how much do you think it's worth and when was it made?
Thanks all for any help.
