Hello all! I normally hunt with rifles but am getting into birds, starting with doves. I have a Mossy 500 20ga that ive had forever, but i want to give a 12 ga a try. i am borrowing a H&R Model 1212 over/under 12 ga from a family member and need some help with the operation of it please.

I see that it has the safety selector as usual, and on that there's another button that has 2 dots on one side and one dot on the other as it switches side to side.

My question is, how do i use that selector switch? does it mean that the one dot side causes one barrel shooting only & the 2 dot means both go off or it will allow one shot for each pull of the trigger?

Thank you for your help! its greatly appreciated! oh, & P.S., this shotgun is so "elegant" compared to the 500..... has classiness.

The selector switch changes which barrel fires first. To the right is the lower barrel first ( usually the more open choke), and to the left the top barrel fires first. Either selection will fire the selected barrel first, then automatically switch to the other barrel for the next shot. When you break the action open it will reset to the first barrel whether you have fired one or both barrels.

Usually when the one dot is shown and the safety is pushed up it will shoot bottom barrel first, if two dots the top barrel first. Most shooters prefer to shoot bottom barrel first as recoil is at lowest point of shotgun and pushes directly back, top barrel tends to push up and back taking a fraction of a second longer to get on second target.
