Hi all,

Recently moved to Vinnings/Atlanta from Southern California. In So Cal, I knew of spots on Bureau of Land Management land where shooters would commonly go to form lines and bury brass in the sand. I'd hardly ever go to ranges.

I want to do the same here, but I do not know where to go. Can anyone here point to a place on a map within 25 miles of Vinnings, or give gps coordinates?

Any range recommendations? Looking for cheap and close to Vinnings. For some reason, my online searches are suggesting there were more gun ranges in So Cal than here, which I am finding difficult to believe.

Thanks!

google the Georgia gun ranges,,,

the DNR WMA has a number, but not very close to atlanta https://georgiawildlife.com/allranges

there are a number of private clubs - these offer the best alternatives (but cost ya) particularly if you are looking for longer distances over 100 yards..

I mostly shoot indoor ranges, and make a road trip to a WMA (on a weekday, never on a weekend)

a great many people shoot on their own land..

I am fortunate enough to have people willing to let me shoot on their property. There are a lot of indoor ranges around. You might be interested in South River Gun Club but it would be a drive for you. I looked into them a while back. Their dues weren't too horrible but the initiation fee was kind of rough.

You're going to probably have to join a private club for any rifle shooting. There isn't any public land within 50 miles of Vinnings to shoot on. There is some public land within an hour or 2 of Atlanta, but not many places suitable for shooting rifles, maybe handguns. You can't see much over 50 yards in most places on public land here. I'm sure there are some indoor ranges all over Atlanta. I know where this is located, but have never been there.

You'll have to visit this store ASAP. They have an indoor range as well.

This is about a 90 minute drive away and where I shoot. There are some regulars who drive up from Cobb county to shoot here. They pack a lunch and make a day of it. They say it is worth it to them. We have the shotgun courses, a lake for fishing, camping, a clubhouse a 25 yard pistol range and a 300 yard rifle range. Not officially sanctioned by the club but there are some steel plates hanging in the woods at 400 yards.

I've shot Sporting Clays here once. Nice place, but too far for me to do on a regular basis.

This is a 2+ hour drive for me, much less from the Atlanta area but something you need to see at least once. A very high tech range where you can shoot out to 600 yards. Not terribly expensive, $30 for a full day.

You’ll find in the South and East that there are limited open shooting areas compared to the thousands of square miles of BLM land in Western states like Ca, Nv, Ut, etc.

It’s pretty much a choice of a gun club, your own plot of land, or someone else’s property as the guys have stated.

Good luck and stay safe.

Bunch of indoor ranges. Wish I could find a decent out door range. Even better someone to let me shoot at the back 40.

I have friends that drive up to Chattanooga for the day and I host them at CRC in Ooltewah. We're having our semi annual surplus shoot on 10/18.

The GA DNR outdoor ranges are quite good, though you must drive out of ATL a bit to get to one. A hunting or fishing license gets you in with no other charges. I use the one in NE GA just south of Cornelia-- Wilson Shoals WMA Shooting Range. It's a great facility, staffed by trained RO's, has nice covered shooting areas, target stands, bathrooms, etc... It has a 25yd pistol range and 100yd rifle range.

I understand most of the other DNR ranges have been upgraded in the last year or so to the same level.

I agree, I moved from northern NV (a state with 100,000 square miles of public land) to Florida with very little suitable for shooting. Joining a gun club is the way to go here in the South.

It might be further than you would want to drive but there is a gunsmith that has a shop in Palmetto, Ga (South Fulton County) that has an outdoor range behind his shop. Someone told me he sells annual range memberships for a reasonable price. The name of the shop is Bobs Custom Firearms. You could call & ask.

riverbend gun club is a good place to shoot. must be a member to shoot,,,but non members can shoot matches at the club. they got a web site.
