Philadelphia sueing PA to pass local firearms restrictions

Not just The City of Brotherly Love. P'burgh started it.

On December 14, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto stood with Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and fellow city councilors Corey O’Connor and Erika Strassburger in City Hall and declared war on guns. The trigger for this war was the horrendous shooting that had taken place at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh’s historically Jewish, but currently diverse Squirrel Hill neighborhood on October 27. Robert Bowers, the person police captured for killing 11 people at the synagogue, was arraigned on February 11 on a 63-count indictment that includes hate crimes, obstructing religious freedom rights, homicide, and firearms charges. And it’s because of this mass shooting that Mayor Peduto wants Pittsburgh to lead a movement of cities across the state and the nation to pass strict gun control measures, despite the steep legal hurdles around gun rights created by the state and federal constitutions.

It always irritates me when someone else has to pay for someone else’s screw ups and Philadelphia just can’t or won’t take care of things at hand! They are the screw ups,,,not us!

It's not about gun control, it's about people control. In order to remove the guns from the people, (in their deluded minds) they are willing to tolerate less people control until they have done so. I wonder whether they have thought this through, with the concurrent "Defund the Police' movement their Strumabteilung and some in office are pushing. Who do they think is going to enforce the draconian order they intend on?

Because they've been so effective in worldwide operations. They are also forgetting who has ended up with supplying most of the equipment, operational coordination, and support services (and $$$) in those UN operations. I can't help but think the vast majority of US service members would uphold their induction oath and not participate. They and any equipment they care to bring with them would be most welcomed by those vets who hold that their oath did not expire on ETS, as well as many non vets.

Which brings up another thought. All it would take is one crew of an SSBN or SSGN, (or even a partial crew) one silo crew, or one Strategic or tactial nuke aircrew, or a carrier crew, to change the game. The UN does not have control over it's member nations Nuclear arsenals, so they would not be able to return the threat in kind. (that and if they did, sure go ahead and hit DC and NYC, etc.)

UN force participation is voluntary, not compulsory, and while there would be nations chomping at the bit, there would also be several important ones that would not and sit out, or offer assistance. UN forces are good for scaring small dictators, but no match for a First World nation, even without it whole formal military.

I love Philly! Watching them make your cheese steak in Philly at some little hole in the wall and then tasting like no other you’ve ever had. The people are great, the politician’s are idiots.

True story. When I was in the military a group of us were street racing and got busted in downtown Philly. The guy driving the car I was in had a BAC above the legal limit, so he was facing a DUI charge. He did’t tell Command, figured wait until the sentencing. Dumb all around, I know.

A few weeks later we went with him to court to see the train wreck. Back then (and maybe still) the arresting officer had to go to the sentencing. My buddies attorney took all 4 of us out into the parking lot and told us to give him all of our cash. We collectively came up with $810 and handed it to the lawyer as we all walked back inside the court house. Once inside the courtroom, the lawyer approached the Philly Cop, then both the lawyer and Officer stepped into the hall for 30 seconds.

A few min later my buddies docket was called and he went up with the lawyer. The Judge asked the Philly Cop “Is the defendant the person who was driving the car?” and the Officer said “I’m not sure your honor”.

Case dismissed. I’ve wondered how much of that $810 the Officer got.
Was Rizzo mayor then? This practice is why our country is in trouble.

It’s absolutely crazy I live 20 minutes from Philadelphia but I work in it and have for years as both a repossession agent and a taxi driver. Every night there are at least 3 shootings for instance Thursday night 11 people got shot including one dead within 2 hrs and all they clueless mayor and district attorney can do is complain about unneeded gun control instead of doing things like putting more cops on the street or letting them actually do their jobs. The us attorney has taken at least a dozen cases away from the Philly district attorney and our police commissioner that’s a whole other issue. Her first order was to remove the ban on nail polish for male and female cops.

Frank Rizzo is a blast from the 60’s and 70’s. Came up through the PD ranks to Commissioner,,,,then Mayor...No muss,,,No BS back then

I often post the picture of former Mayor Frank Rizzo,,,that’s who they need again!

Rizzo was tough! You knew better than start trouble back then. He had the police departments back. Not like now where the major cities mayors are abandoning their police and restricting them to chase the socialist agenda.

If all else fails, why not try enforcing the laws already on the books?
How often are these gang bangers charged with unlawful carry, unlawful concealment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, etc., etc., etc.? Almost never. If they were, it wouldn't take very long to put them all away for most of their adult lives. Assuming, of course, an application of truth in sentencing. Also, bring back the concept of 'Three Strikes'. Three felony convictions and you get life in prison. - Not so much as punishment but more so because a three-time-felon obviously cannot live among civilized populations without failing to recognize he is bound to follow the laws of society. Habitual criminals need to be separated from law-abiding people.

Just remember Greens Campaign slogan from back then!
If you don’t vote for Wilson Goode, they be a helicopter over your neighborhood! ,,,

army,,,

As stated elsewhere,,,Rizzo and the police ran the city for trouble,,, they didn’t mess around back then,,,,was it needed yes it was and it’s needed today because we cannot keep bending over to the real Criminal element of this country.

My understanding of Pa. poltiics is that cities have very little home rule. And I find it interesting that the anti-gunners are rejecting the main argument of the Civil Rights Movement-that rights belong to the individual and he has his rights no matter where he is.

Any municipal government hat sues the state, using and wasting your money, both ways, needs to be recalled lock stock and barrel. Pun intended.
