It seems to me that an umbrella could make a handy left handed weapon, much like a sword cane with some concealment and possibly cover options, There does not deem to be much development along the lines, basically canes with umbrella parts and no swords, let alone concealment or cover provisions.

I have the Unbreakable Umbrella. It’s a nice high quality umbrella. Gives good service in rain with strong winds. It hits hard so be careful.

I too have the Unbreakable Umbrella and I agree that it hits hard.

I often wondered if someone would make an expandable baton version and it appears they have.

I have nearly bought an Unbreakable at least 6 times. Very nice invisible SD carry piece. As a physically fit 40 year old, a cane sticks out like a sore thumb. However, I so rarely find myself needing an umbrella, have yet to make the purchase.

I think the small collapsible version makes the most sense, but I think I would prefer the crook on the full length for traps and hooks and also like the distance and leverage it affords.

A good umbrella, regardless of your need for defense, is money well spent to ensure it there when you need to stay dry. I travel for a living and a good one is worth its weight unless you leave it somewhere.

Another great thing about them is you can stroll into sterile/restricted/prohibited areas with nary a side eye cast at you since they're so obviously just an umbrella.

Even a cheap umbrella can be very effective,,,
I once saw a woman poke a guy just under his sternum.

I saw blood gushing through his t-shirt,,,
It looked to me like a normal $10.00 umbrella.

Back around 1980 something someone was offering an Umbrella that had sturdy steel parts and the umbrella had under its outer layer level IIA soft armor. It was sold as a tool for bodyguards and a self defense defensive item.

Seemed like an interesting concept at least, though these days might want something like Second Chance Z9 armor

I've had two of the Unbreakable Umbrellas, and I will say they are fabulous umbrellas. Never had to hit anyone with one, though!

I'd look pretty silly with an umbrella of any sort down here in south Texas.
Either it's dry as a bone or blowing so hard that it would jerk it out of your hand.
-And I'm not even considering using a parasol... .

The Americans with Disabilities act makes it illegal to even question why someone on a public conveyance has a cane. As long as you don't go for gimmics like concealed blades or guns, a cane can be carried literally anywhere besides correctional and (some) mental health facilities.

Considering our almost 20 year "conflict", a young person with a cane will be assumed to be a wounded vet.

Living on Puget Sound (some folks think it rains occasionally here), I have carried an umbrella, infrequently, but had not really considered it as a defensive option (even though I have a substantial amount of baton training under my belt). Hmm. Will have to check in to those Unbreakable products.
