Question about covering serial numbers with grips

The butt of the grip frame is one spot to find a S&W serial number and the one place they all should have one. Older (pre1960) had it on the cylinder face, back of crane and inside ejector shroud if it has one, and on the butt. Newer guns are marked on frame under crane and on butt

And it was 1957, not 1960 that marked the time between when the SN appeared on the rear face of the cylinder, underside of the barrel or inside the under lug, and underside of the extractor star and when it only appeared on the bottom of the butt.

Soon as I posted I realized I should have made an exception for the Regulatio Police model. Wasn’t sure exactly when the serial number was eliminated from the cylinder fave but knew it was Pre1960 so thanks for clarifying that

Now Pat', if you're using the currently concealed serial number, as an excuse to tell your wife, to justify a pricey new set of grips, it can remain our secret here.... ;)
Our late range officer had a pile of early, inexpensive revos without serial numbers in his gun stash. None were great brands.
