hello need a little help on what to buy to shoot my 56SB and how would you load the charge to shoot a shot load. What would be the ball size and where can i buy them . I acquired this rifle from a friend and looks new. thanks

28 gauge wads. Circle Fly manufacturer. Hey .070 overpowder, 1/2" fiber cushion, and thin card overshot. 7/8 oz shot, equal volume of ffg.
That's what I used in mine. Mine had thinwall choke tubes so don't expect long range patterns.

To fire it as a smooth rifle, there are options.
The tightest shooting load would be a .550 ball and a .015 patch rammed on top of about 90 grains of 2F powder.
Such a load can produce very tight groups at 50 yards, but can also require swabbing in between each and every shot.
A slightly looser load would be to use a .010 patch instead of a .015.

Another option would be use the slightly smaller .543 ball and either a .015 patch or a .018 pillow ticking patch.
It really depends on how hard the other load is to ram and whether you feel comfortable with using a mallet to tap it in, or have a sturdy range ramrod or not.
And whether you want to swab in between each and every shot or not.

Because the bore doesn't have any rifling grooves, the excess patch material doesn't have any place to be squeezed into when you ram it.
And any powder residue can also contribute to making loading tougher for the same reason.

Track of the Wolf sells both ball sizes and patches.

I agree with what Articap said. I get 2.5" groups at 50 yards using the .550 ball with .015 mink oil lubed patch over 80 grains of 3f goex. I coned the muzzle to make it easier to start a patched ball, but once started, the ball seats easily. As for a shot load, I use a square load of 70 grains of 2f goex, a 1/2" wool felt wad. 70 grain volume of #5 shot and a 1/2" lubed wool over shot wad. My patterns are good out to 25 yards, after that they start to open up.
