I have a Henry H001 that is hitting 4 inches high at 50 yards. The factory sights are set as low as they will go. I tried Remington Thunderbolt and CCI CPHP Shorts. Other than changing sights is there anything that can be done to lower the impact point?

"The factory sights are set as low as they will go..."
Just to be sure, you do know the front sight must be raised to lower your point of impact.

Yes, that's true. Unfortunately only the rear sights are adjustable. The front blade is part of the barrel band. The only way to replace it is to machine it off and cut a dovetail into the band. There are aftermarket bands that allow replacement of the blade. I should probably shoot it a bit at longer range. Its zeroed at some distance somewhere. I had a scope on it but the elevation above the bore made it odd shooting with a chin weld.

If you are handy with needle files you could file the notch in your rear sight deeper.
If you are open to peep sights I put Skinner sights on my 45/70. Great sights. Their web site is informative.

Wouldn't the front sight still need to be replaced? I looked into them earlier, but it seems they often need a higher front sight as well.

Skinner has a peep or ghost ring that replaces your buckhorn or semi on the barrel. They also have the receiver mounted peep.
I don’t know if either is compatible with the front sight height. There is a section for Henry’s with recommendations on their site

Ya, I'd go with Skinner. There's a number of different options. You could probably contact them and get their advice. No doubt you're not the first to run into this. The rear sight is the only weak point on Henry rifles, IMO, and it can be a major weak point.

Just for perspective this was shot aiming at the bottom edge of the white square at 50 yards. This is the back of a Dirty Bird 8" bullseye. The holes on the right were shot from the front, when someone swapped my 22 for one of Henry's lever action shotguns without me knowing. Note how the "pattern" looks exactly like a poorly shot 22 target.

Exactly where are you placing, and what part of the front sight are you placing where?
What round/ bullet weight are you shooting? Can you go to a heavier bullet?

I have my Fathers H001 and it has the same issue. We bought a ghost ring rear sight and it really didn't help. I put the original sight back on and haven't messed with it.

Try moving your target back 50 yards :)

Seriously though, I like peep sights better anyway, so I replaced my stock sights.

What I did:
-Put on a Williams WGRS-54 rear peep.
front sight was too short.
-Got a Hi-Viz front sight for the Henry - although this is about the same as the Henry sight, it has a standard 3/8" dovetail
-Gobbed JB-Weld on the front sight to make it taller, filed it to general front-sight shape.
-Shot and filed the JB Weld until elevation was about right at 50 yards in the center of the peep sight adjustment.
-Measured the "modified" Front sight (from bottom of the dovetail to top of sight)
-Bought a new front sight bead of the same general height. (mine ended up being closest to .375 - I bought this:)

That was Thunderbolt 40 grain 1255ish fps. I was aiming at the bottom of the white square, straight below the 3" ShootnSee bullseye sticker.

Except for my long range 22, I generally zero 22s at 50 yards. I bought this rifle to use with CBs or Quiet rounds for rats and such. If it were just a target rifle, that zero actually works pretty well, and it will zero out just shy of 100 yards. For it's intended purpose with such small targets, I'd like to get it dead on at 50 or even 25 yards. Its lots of fun to shoot and were 22 more plentiful, it would go to the range about every time. In late summer I got a box of 500 Thunderbolt just for this rifle, so I still have a fair bit left. I generally shoot less than 2 magazines per trip so 500 will last a while.

Yea I did a bunch of patterning at 25 yards with various ammo. CCI standard velocity is pretty much dead on at 25 but there isn't any to be found generally. The CPHP shorts are about 2" high at 25 yards. I was holding 6 o'clock on the red bullseye.

I put an MVA #130 on my Henry. It can be zeroed from 25-250+ with the original front sight. I did replace it with a blade though it was easier to hit the long shots with for me. It’s a fun little rifle. 483C77D1-03C9-47E7-853D-AA795B3D160B.jpeg

Probably, but only by a half inch or so. I have a Marlin 60 with fine adjustable sights set dead on at 50 yards. It's very close at 25.

A tang sight is appealing for my 336, but this little Henry doesn't have much room for those I don't think.
