Some guns are just hard to shoot

I recently shot a PA-63 with full power loads, 95grain at 1000 fps. That hurt, made worse by the grips, and shape of the frame.
The only firearms worse I have shot are a Super Blackhawk (shot that in -30°F with no gloves on!) and a 9mm Cobra derringer.

Chicharrones...

You have inadvertantly helped me resolve a dilemma that has toyed with me for a couple years now.

Should I purchase a NAA Guardian...??

I really like the quality of their mini-revolvers and have assumed their auto would be no different.

But, seeing how yours drove you to aggression, I think I will just cross it off my list of future possibilities. Thank-You...!

To stay on topic, my NAA mini-revolver in .22 mag is quite a little handful. Almost impossible to keep follow-up shots on target without readjusting it. No pain though... aside from the one in my a— trying to hit the target.

I have best results just pointing and shooting the darn thing instead of over-thinking it by trying to aim it with just a front sight.

I've always found the holster grip to be beneficial with the Black Widow. As for accuracy, I'm not bad with mine. I sight down along the top of the barrel and place the front sight directly on what I want to hit. A few people on various forums used this method with some success.

m2 50 cal.. a pain to take to the range, its a minimum of 3 - 5 heavy trips to the car... 3 for the gun and ammo and at least 2 for some sandbags.

I'm willing to bet that you aren't exactly a pocket carry type of guy. :)

M53 yugo's answer to mg-42.. Anytime I work it I end up with cuts and scraps on my hands from some of the pressed/stamped metal parts.

NAA Guardian in .32 acp. For me(& some of friends) that was a little hand stinger.

FEG SMC .380. I REALLY wanted to love that gun. PPKish. All steel. Great bluing. Shot like a lazer. Razor edged slide. Couldn't shoot it without incurring a bloody hand.

Ruger LCP, second version of the first generation. Just could not shoot it well. When Pachmayr came out with the Guardian grip the LCP went bye bye. My pocket gun is a LCRX in 9mm now.

KevininPa...

Thanks for your suggestions...

I have considered the folding holster grip. Would like to see one in person sometime and try it out.

Always had a fondness for things that fold up and/or clip on.

The worst pistols I have owned and shot regularly have been the Ruger LCP and LC9. Terrible triggers on both, exceptional recoil from each as well. Replaced each one with Glock 42 and 43 respectively with much improved handling. I have several other Glock pistols and the familiar grip angle was what made these smaller pistols easier to shoot.

My Ruger LC9 stinks to shoot. Gave my sin his first ever slide bite. And rubs a spot raw on my thumb. But its accurate for a small pistol.

I’m in complete agreement with all those who posted that their S&W airweight centerfire snub revolvers and Ruger LCP/AMT Backup/Walther PPK 380’s rate high on the “shooters misery scale.” Despite being “mild to mid” caliber guns their designs just aren’t ones to make firing hands happy.

Now a hot-loaded .45/70 or .375 JDJ contender is another beast altogether. Several of those in a row could be ruled as cruel and unusual punishment for most folks. :what:

Stay safe.

My 329pd is difficult to shoot well. Yeah it recoils a lot and that sucks but it is unbelievably light for its size and precise shooting isn't easy with a gun that light. Also, 400gr loads hurt

The p3at is like trying to shoot an exploding credit card, not fun

I had to learn the hard way not to lock my elbow when shooting the Desert Eagle .50 -- couldn't figure out why my shoulder socket was hurting. LOL

Don’t mind the LCP/P3AT. But I found 357s out of an N frame quite unpleasant. Can guess that full house 44 mag would be even worse.

S&W 642, hated that little revolver. Trigger pull wouldn't register on my scale until I installed an Apex trigger kit that helped quite a bit but that little gun would slap my hand when I fired it. Yep, my favorite part of owning that gun was selling it.
My 1st pistol was the 642, it took forever to shoot it well, and my hand always ached after shooting it. 2nd worst was the Seecamp 32acp. Beautiful gun,but it is so small you have to contourt you hand to fire it, and I needed to carry a 1st aid kit to the range due to all the cuts I would get on my finger from the metal trigger guard.

While I really don't enjoy shooting an LCP, I have owned probably four of them, and every time I sell one I run across a deal and buy another...for some reason. And I do shoot them pretty well--enough so that I could carry it with confidence. But I don't have much confidence in the .380 cartridge, so although I own one and shoot it several times a year, I maybe carry it once a year. (I am much happier carrying/shooting my Kahr PM9.)

Similar with j-frames. I've owned more than half a dozen, and probably closer to a dozen. I can shoot one pretty well, but don't enjoy shooting them, so I don't practice as much as I should.

"My most un-fun gun to shoot is my S&W SC360 Scandium .357Mag. Loaded with five 158gr JHP its 15.5 ounces total. I carry it often as a back up, if I ever need it, it'll hurt the bad guy a lot more than it hurts me."

Having owned three .357 mag Scandium j-frames, I couldn't agree more with the first sentence. As far as the final sentence, I'm not so sure about that.
The 360 was my first, subsequently owned two 340s--guess I'm a slow learner. Ten years later, my right wrist still hurts, and no, I'm not kidding. I still own a 642, but no more Scandium Magnums for me.

As far as the guy who said .357 Mag N-frames are unpleasant, I still own three and can do 50 rounds with some subsequent discomfort (64-year old arthritic wrists).

Comparable to 10 rounds of the 642 or 1-3 rounds of the 340.

Being used to my Beretta 9mm's, the S&W Shield 9mm was something it took 2-3 days at the range and about 200+ rounds to be really comfortable and accurate with. So now being retired pays off with at least one day a week with each. It will be interesting to see how adding the Ruger LCP II to the mix will turn out.

Some guns are hard to shoot well, some guns are painful to shoot, but some guns are just plain hard to operate. That’s my case with one of last years purchases that I finally got around to shooting more than just enough to say I have fired it. Before yesterday I had put 1 cylinder through this one of ridiculously light handloads.

I finally got some factory loaded ammo for 32sw (randomly given to me by a coworker even) and I was shooting the old 32 Safety Hammerless in the yard. Popping snap caps is no issue as your not trying to aim, but trying to actually shoot the gun is very hard for me. The gun is so small it’s hard for me to squeeze down on the safety without putting my hand into a very awkward position. Likely because my hands are on the large side.
I do not shoot my 32 S&W Long Regulation Police for this reason. It it so small I can't even get a reasonable grip on the gun and my trigger finger is practically touching my thumb knuckle.

I have one of these too. Fits my hand pretty well and is darned accurate, but..... that accuracy presupposes you have plenty of time to search for the front sight. The sight picture is so minuscule, I would not have much confidence if I ever had to use it in a hurry.

Way back when bought a AMT Backup .380 (first model). If and when it functioned, just a painful little gun to shoot. Got rid of it in a hurry.

I saw the thread topic , came up with my entry and worst shooting result - the AMT backup - and got beat to the punch.
That AMT is an ergonomic abomination.

Bond Arms Snakeslayer 45lc/410. The machining and finish are elegant. I love looking at it. Shooting feels like getting your hand twixt hammer and anvil.

I have the same problem, it is a well made firearm, I just cannot shoot it accurately.
